YUKON — Police Chief Gary Wieczorek was promoted this month to public safety director.
Wieczorek will be the administrator of the city’s police, fire and emergency management departments. He will continue serving as police chief, but Deputy Police Chief John Corn will handle the daily operations of the police department. Frosty Peak will remain the emergency management director, and Jeff Lara will continue as fire chief. "My primary goal is to coordinate the activities of all of the departments when it comes to large-scale events like storms and disasters,” Wieczorek said. He said the three departments will be under the public safety department, but they will remain distinct entities. Wieczorek has served as Yukon police chief since June 2007. He previously served as a deputy police chief in the Chicago metropolitan area.
