Sooners coach Bob Stoops attributed strength of schedule as the deciding factor in voting Florida No. 2 in the final coaches ranking.

"It was simple for me,” Stoops said. "I voted Florida two, Michigan three, for the reasons that I felt their strength of schedule — which I have always believed should be a major factor — I believe was more difficult.

"And they played an extra game in the SEC Championship against another really good football team, on top of their schedule. I’d like to see everyone have to play a championship game. In the end, I thought the extra game is another proving ground and that along with their strength of schedule, I thought they deserved it.”

Stoops featured: Stoops will be featured Saturday on the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Finalists Show, to be aired at 1 p.m. on ABC.

Stoops is among 10 finalists who will be profiled.

The other candidates: Mack Brown of Texas, Lloyd Carr of Michigan, Jeff Tedford of California, Jim Tressel of Ohio State, Tommy Tuberville of Auburn, Danny Hale of Bloomsburg, Bobby Petrino of Louisville, Greg Schiano of Rutgers and Mel Tjeerdsma of Northwest Missouri State.

The winner will be featured on the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Presentation Show at 1 p.m Dec. 16.

• OU encyclopedia signing: Local author Ray Dozier will be signing copies of his new book, The Oklahoma Football Encyclopedia, today at the Barnes & Noble store at 13800 North May.

The signing begins at 6 p.m.

The book is an historical description of every Sooner game from the beginning, in 1895, through the 2005 season.

A hardcover, the book sells for $39.95.

Red River review: The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame has announced plans for a national tour for 2007.

Among the highlights: six rivalry matchups, including OU-Texas.

The tour, to take place at shopping malls in the locales of top college rivalries during those game weeks, will feature appearances by college hall of famers and celebrities, historical exhibits and artifacts and interactive activities for fans.

In its 60th anniversary year, the NFF is embarking on the tour to "celebrate the traditions of college football.”
