Driver Cody C. Spears, 27, and back-seat passenger Viola Tolbert, 59, died at the scene about 7 p.m., police officer Leland Ashley said.

The accident occurred on U.S. 75 near W 71st Street, authorities said.

The driver of the other car was arrested in connection with the wreck.

Three other people in Spears’ car were injured, said Tina Wells, Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman.

A 6-year-old boy and a 23-year-old woman were in fair condition and a 7-year-old girl was in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital.

Their names were not released by emergency officials, but a relative identified the boy as Zachary Snow, the girl as Emily Snow and the woman as Shelly Spears, daughter of Viola Tolbert.

The children were being raised by Tolbert, who was their grandmother, Ashley said.

What happened?

Spears’ car was getting ready to leave the shoulder after a flat tire was repaired when it was hit by a car that police said was driven by Nancy Gail Rueb, 42.

Rueb was booked into the Tulsa County jail on two complaints of DUI manslaughter.

Bail has been set at $100,000, jail records show.

In June 2002 Rueb was convicted of reckless driving after originally being charged with driving under the influence, according to court documents. She received a 90-day suspended sentence and was fined $500.
