Bill Self! He won't show any interest in his alma mater until after his team's last game. Wouldn't that be something if KU wins the National Championship, then their coach leaves. That would be one for the ages.

Bill Self would be fine, but I don't think he would be a good fit. My choice is Tubby Smith and i believe he would come back to Oklahoma. He is a better recruiter and coach than Self. Take Self at his word, look elsewhere.

the coach from missouri state is good and tubby smith. there are alot of mid majors or lesser schools that are great and should be considered first. the big names i wouldnt even considered. yes self would be great and he could leave like williams did, its his alma mater. personally i think holder should not have ant say so in interviewing or hiring of the new coach. they ought to have a panel of basketball alums to do the interviewing and the choosing. holder couldnt get himself out of a wet paper bag.

I have no idea who is being considered. But what I have a firm opinion on is that Holder is coming with some "major cash". He has it, and he has to. This whole incident has been a debacle. (And it is yet to be seen whether the Suttons will go quietly.) So don't be surprised when you hear the numbers.

Calipari? Self? Top 15 program? That's really funny. Just like SMU, Army, Yale and Harvard are top college football programs because of their history in football. Good luck guys. Why don't you try to snag Billy Donovan, Roy Williams, or John Wooden while your at it? Lute Olson's going through some tough times, maybe see if he wants a change of scenery. Or how about getting Phil Jackson? I'm sure he'd love to come to a place with more of a mid-west feel to it.

I have no idea what is going to happen with the OSU hire, but here are the things that are NOT going to happen: 1) We love him, but Eddie's not coming back. Even is Holder would even consider it, do you really think he would after the way his son was treated?; 2) Good coach, nice guy, but Scott Sutton isn't coming. See #1 above; 3)Barry Hinson? The guy that just got fired because he couldn't win at MISSOURI STATE? Please.; 4)Kelvin Samsung? Wasn't even amusing the first time somebody said it, now that it's been repeated 47 times it's just annoying. 5)Bob Knight. Not even worth another keystroke

Why not Lon Kruger? Bill Self isn't going home...although the Kansas fans in KC are sweating bullets.

I don't think it will be Self, but every coach has his price. Still, when the big name is announced, the same posters here who wrote that OSU was delusional will be on here saying the new guy was bought and paid for with TBP's money... without a hint of irony to the fact their coaches are bought and paid for by the family that owns this very news site!

Anyone know how much Bruce Pearl makes at Tennessee?
As for Knight, I think he would consider it if he still has the desire. His wife is an Okie and he could drive 20 minutes in any direction for some bird huntin. Will not have to worry about facing his son's team too often as Tech will oust Pat due to similar circumstances.

It is really funny to see all the Aggies deluding themselves they can hire Bill Self away from a bona fide national basketball power. They are not even the state's power and that point was proven twice in one year. Once again, today has proven why Aggie fans viewed as a bunch of pompous losers...

Who cares if it is a big name? You have to think that with the talent pool of coaches at mid-major and lesser schools (i.e. Baylor) OSU could find a great fit. The facilities and money is here. The fans have to believe in whoever OSU finds. Mull this over: I am sure Scott Drew is not set at Baylor the rest of his career. A great hire for State. Or, look at OU and Texas A&M. They both went to the Mid Majors and found great coaches. It will happen for State, the fans just need to believe. Holder will go after Self first, but if he says no then the smaller school coaches are the best bet.

I want to think the big name is coming. But I know it's not. I felt this same way not long ago, then came Gundy. We may have the big money but we're just not smart enough to use it effectively, or so it seams. We can have the biggest and newest facilities in the country, but it won't matter if no one's buying tickets.

Time to wait for the other shoe to drop. Hard to imagine it'd be dumber than today, but with Mike Holder as the AD, it very well might be ("what's such a big deal about the Final Four? I've won golf titles!"). Who would've thought the BB program could've been fractured so totally by one AD? To be repaired someday? Who knows.....

Realistically, Holder will try to get Self, Gillespie, or Calipari and get rejected by all three. Then he'll go for a smaller school head coach who has had recent or long term success. Xavier, Davidson, Butler, Gonzaga, Creighton.. somewhere like that.

Scott would be a great hire, he has actually earned his way through the coaches ranks and created for himself a winning program, because he is actually a good coach, not just a sutton.

OSU is a legitimate top-15 program. There are only 12 schools with the same number or more of final fours and national championships, but Kansas has more final fours(more than double) and the same number of championships. Also, their championships weren't more than 60 years ago. Why in the world would Bill Self leave that to replace his former player(Bill self was Sean's point guard coach)? Guess what Sooner fans? You only rank above us in winning percentage. The only reason you have that is for 30 years we didn't have a coach like Eddie or the man who made college basketball what it is today Hank Iba.

That being said, we are acting like a top-5 program and we are not. Duke, UNC, UCLA, Kentucky, and Indiana are unquestionably better teams and would probably make up the top five for most coaches and players in terms of history and reputation.

I guarantee it won't be a big name. Holder is all about budgets and a big name would cost too much. He will grab a hot shot assistant from somebody or Brooks Thompson?!?!?

This is the right decision. The program was spinning it's wheels with Sean as coach. He's a good assistant coach, no less no more. We need a real leader and Pickens has the money to buy one. You gotta think big if ya want to win big. Go Pokes

None of these are coming. The Davidson coach doesn't want to come to a place where if he doesn't make it to the tournament in his first two seasons he gets fired. Bill Self won't replace Sutton and Billy Gillespie is at one of the top-5 basketball schools in the nation, a school that has a higher winning percentage, more final fours, and more national championships. The only reason for the Memphis coach to leave is money. He is now getting the same caliber recruits that he could have at OSU and he's in the final four. OSU hasn't done better than that in OVER 60 YEARS. I keep hoping that I'll wake up tomorrow and this will have been some elaborate April fools joke.

OSU has extremely little options in getting a coach to come here. The only type of coach that this situation attracts is not the type of coach that the basketball "family" would want, but in Holder's mind that doesn't matter he's done just about everything to destroy that family.
