Tulsa Public Schools’ monthly funding from the state came in $1.1 million below projections for November, leading Superintendent Keith Ballard to announce a host of dramatic budget reductions at a Friday morning press conference.

Saying that TPS will likely be cut the “catastrophic” amount of $8 million to $10 million total over the remaining months of 2009-10, Ballard said the school district has no other choice but to freeze all hiring, eliminate substitute teachers, curtail travel spending and schedule furlough days for administrators and support workers.

He warned that a significant number of jobs will be eliminated by attrition and lay-offs next summer if state funding cuts are as deep as expected - or worse.

The lottery money to the districts is being short-changed by our illustrious state legislature. That money is filtered through the general fund and then sent out. The total money handed out to the schools from them lottery cannot fully accounted for due to this method. Can't blame the governor on this theft. This blood is on the hands of the Republican legislative leaders. The lottery money should go directly to the districts and not into the general fund. A request to do this was sent to the legislature by the state department of education and they were turned down.

Now why in the world would there be a shortfall in any school system. Our fine governor promised this would not happen if we passed the bill establishing the lottery, and they started getting money from the Indian Tribes on the new slot machines. Wow, lied to again by a politician. I am amazed!!!!
