Maybe you heard of a little Steven Spielberg movie written by Michael Crichton starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton (Twister)?
Watch for the small town of Wakita, Oklahoma where "Aunt Meg" lives.
-----
Of course, the movie and Broadway play, "Oklahoma"
-----
"Cimarron", the first western to win an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1931. The film chronicles a homesteading family through an Oklahoma Land Run to 1915, and some of the first efforts to carve a society out of the wilderness.
-----
"Saving Grace" stars Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter. The show is set in Oklahoma City — including numerous shots of local buildings and landmarks (such as the Oklahoma City National Memorial the downtown skyline). Series creator Nancy Miller grew up in Oklahoma City, and as a result Saving Grace includes many references to Oklahoma City and the state of Oklahoma. For instance, many of the characters' last names are the names of Oklahoma towns: Hanadarko is derived from Anadarko; also Clay NORMAN, Ham DEWEY, Butch ADA, Bobby STILLWATER and Captain PERRY all have last names taken from Oklahoma towns and cities.
-----
The Disney/Pixar film “Cars”...one of the main characters in the film is based on Dawn Welch and her Route 66 Rock Café in Stroud.
When the film makers were researching Route 66, they visited Welch’s restaurant, ordered one of everything on the menu and asked her to sit and talk to them about her life, the café and Route 66. She then became the inspiration for Sally, the blue Porsche.
-----
"Rain Man" starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Won Best Actor and Best Picture Oscars. Watch for the streets of Guthrie when Hoffman's is taken to a clinic doctor as well as El Reno's Big 8 Motel that "plays" an Amarillo motel in the film.
-----
"The Outsiders", the story of rival gangs, "Greasers" and "Socs," in 1963 Tulsa. Two young boys are on the run after killing a rival in self defense. Watch for Tulsa's Admiral Twin Drive-In as well as extensive scenes filmed throughout Tulsa including downtown and Tulsa Regional Medical Center.
-----
"Far and Away" Another Tom Cruise movie filmed partially in Oklahoma, Far and Away co-starred Nicole Kidman and was directed by Ron Howard. The story of romance during the Oklahoma Land Run.
-----
"Dillinger" Starring Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, Richard Dreyfuss and more, Dillinger was filmed entirely in Oklahoma, with scenes shot in Enid, Nash and OKC. OKC's old Midwest Theatre on Harvey (demolished in 1976) served as a Chicago stand-in, and scenes were also shot at the Skirvin Hotel (now renovated).
-----
"The Torkelsons" The Torkelsons was an NBC family sitcom set in Pyramid Corners, OK, which ran from September 9, 1991 to June 13, 1992. Developed by Michael Jacobs (Dinosaurs), the series focused on Millicent Torkelson (Connie Ray), whose husband walked out on her leaving her to work and raise five children.
Ironically, in the spring of 1993, the series was retooled as "Almost Home", with Millicent moving to Seattle, losing the two middle children, and becoming a nanny for a single dad (Perry King) with two children.
-----
"Rodney" set in Tulsa, starring Rodney Carrington. Down-home humor about a budding Tulsa comic trying to juggle family life and career pursuits.
Ahem, it is RED DIRT thank you very much! Can even get a red dirt t-shirt where the "dye" is made out of it, will never wash out...LOL
And if red dirt t-shirts aren't your style, you can always pick up one of the "Official Cow Tipping Association" gift items at the OKC airport. (Thank you Charles Barkley)
We have Rocklahoma
Steve Largent is someone you probably have heard about is from Oklahoma along with tons of other athletes.
Oklahoma has a lot - we have all 4 seasons, we have a naval base, while I wouldn't call it an ocean - it connects to the ocean. We have deserts, we have caves, we have grasslands, we have forests, we have tropical areas, we have lots of surface water other states are envious, we have water skiing and boating, we have great fishing and hunting, we have farm land, we have oil and natural gas, we have fresh air, we have mountain ranges, we have rock climbing and repelling, we have buffalo herds, we have a canal, we have canoing and rafting, we have pow wows and tepees, we have strong wind that energy companies are converting into energy and investing in Oklahoma's land, but I have never seen a dust bowl except on TV. They call us a donor state because other states live off of the things we produce. We are up next for an MLS team as over 10000 people showed up for an exhibition game on a weekday during bad weather with little advertising.
We have a better shot at hosting a world's fair than Seattle in the future.
We have a strong economy in today's mess
The Notorious Chery Bombs should be listed under the Country category.
Boyz to Men should be Color Me Badd. (Sorry, I don't keep up with these 'boys bands'.)
And while I'm here, let me ask Carnation why he didn't mention Pearl Jam? I always liked Eddie and the boys. Couldn't understand a word Veder ever sang, but it was interesting stuff.

Anything else, Okie wannabe?
Seattle... Jimi Hendrix, Heart, Nirvana. I can a bunch. How come people come from the world around to see things like Jimi's grave? The Space Needle. Little Podunk towns like Forks and Roslyn and North Bend because they were made famous by being in films or tv? Ever heard of Twin Peaks? How many people come to OKC because it offers anything besides the Former Sonics.
Nobody, thats who. It's a dustbown and that is being nice.
Come on up I'll show ya around. It will take a few weeks to show what the City of Seattle has not to mention the outlying area 50 miles around the city. We have mountains for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling. We have the ocean. What ya got, dirt?
Yes I know you have the Thunder and that's been made painfully clear.
I'll tell ya... Never!
What a visionary statement. It reminds me of 1962 when coffeehouses with beatniks were 'cool', which, ironically, also describes Seattle TODAY!
Okie..the state built a 6.5 million dollar crapper for their landmark out on the panhandle a couple years ago, remember??
That is still TBD as well. We'll see in a few years after the honeymoon is over and Clay asks for his new 500 million dollar palace or else. My guess is or else!

KD's comment was a canned statement. What will speak volumes is when he is available for Free Agency. Then he can go back to calling Clay a Fatboy.
Seattle, the city that the NBA forgot.
We'd take your Seahawks, too, but we have our own profesional team, the Sooners, who could beat the lowly Hawks!
Sad times in Seattle.
KD recently said he was so glad the team moved.
