The Main Event: Oklahoma was one and done with Thursday night
Published: November 16, 2009
Oklahoma played Texas Tech in the very first game of ESPN's Thursday Night Football series. On Sept. 3, 1992, the Sooners won 34-9 in Lubbock.
The Sooners haven't returned to Thursday night since.
And OU has no interest in hosting a Thursday night game, either.
"An emphatic no," athletic director Joe Castiglione said. "I realize why a number of schools have embraced that opportunity. In some situations, it works."
Just not at OU. Castiglione said Owen Field's setting, in the heart of campus, would create too much pressure on faculty, staff and students to conduct business. And Castiglione said he's concerned by the idea of having fans drive long distances home to make work Friday morning.
Castiglione said OU has been offered a couple of Monday night games, and he's turned them down. The only possible exception to the Saturday-only rule would be a Thanksgiving weekend game on Thursday or Friday.
"While we try to be innovative, our roots are classic traditional," Castiglione said.

If the Swooners are so influenced by a big loss as to affect their schedule, then they'd better drop Tech and Texas from their schedule.
Oh, yeah. They can't.
But I'd bet they wish they could.
How's that Swooner season working out for you, Berry?
Meanwhile, schools like USC, Miami, Va Tech and OSU aren't afraid to be daring and innovative.
