State immigration law backers submit petitions

By Michael McNutt
Published: November 1, 2007

As hundreds gathered today outside the state Capitol to protest Oklahoma's new enforcement immigration law, a supporter of the measure gave the governor's office year-old petitions signed by Oklahomans backing an end to illegal immigration.

Clark Curry, local leader of the John Birch Society, delivered petitions with nearly 2,700 signatures of people against amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Gov. Brad Henry is out of the country on an economic and education fact-finding mission.

"We thank the governor for signing it (the immigration measure),” Curry told Henry's spokesman, Paul Sund, who accepted the signatures.

Curry, of Edmond, said the petitions were collected during the 10 days of the 2006 Oklahoma State Fair."There was no problem at all getting signatures,” he said.

The petitions actually are addressed to members of Congress asking them to vote against a guest worker amnesty bill and vote to secure America's border and stop illegal immigration. Congress last year was considering immigration legislation, but no measure ever passed.

Oklahoma legislators last year were unsuccessful in getting an immigration measure passed.

Curry said he knew legislators would try again this year, and he kept the petitions to give to the governor on the day the new law took effect.

"While there are those that claim we cannot deport all the illegal immigrants,” Curry said, "it's clear to the state of Oklahoma that we won't be catering to their needs any longer and in the resulting environment, they will merely deport themselves.”

He said illegal immigrants will leave Oklahoma as employers comply with the state law and no longer offer jobs to them.

I have strong opinions about this issue as I live in the near south of downtown. I have been around here long enough to see the changes. Granted, it seems a just a bit racist. However, were my neighborhood over-run by Canadians that had run into my truck on two occassions in the last few years, then pulled a pistol to convince me they should get to leave, or had it been a Canadian that came into my yard, wrote down the V.I.N. on my truck and falsified documents to transfer title to himself-then I would probably feel pretty strongly that we have a problem at our northern border. In these instances I was dealing with young Hispanic men, so apparently the problem in my neighborhood is stemming from the south. Many of them seem to have already left at the invitation of my home states government, which is real nice because more than one of 'em told me they'd be taking over my neighborhood. It's also real nice that the neighborhood kids are only having to stop playing ball in the street when they see a car coming, instead of dashing to the curb to avoid the speeding flash with the "oom-pah" music blaring out of it. I was becoming concerned about living in an environment were a priveleged segment of society could commit crimes and then for a few dollars go to their document broker and change their identity, where even the police felt it almost useless to pursue them. Fortunately, I still have my "real" neighbors, some great Hispanic families, the beautiful black ones and even a few white people (some of 'em might even be Canadian). Down here on 22nd street we all get along just fine, 'cause this is OUR street and we love it. I have voiced support of HB1804 to the folks that made it happen since I caught wind of it and have re-contacted them since this latest hooplah to let them know of my continued support and the positive changes it has made down here on the front. Ya'all might oughta let Mr. Terrill and the other gentleman uptown know what ya think, they love the attention and by God,they work for you.

My American flag is up along with several others that I have noticed in the neighbor hood around sixteen in all. I want one thing to be known. This is an answer to the radical Hispanic groups that have raised the Mexican flag in our country and marched on the U.S with demands of Americans to leave. I have no problems with the ones who work, collect no government assistance and support themselves they are the ones who have no problem with our flag and respect it. However it will send a mesege to the radical hispancis that we are united. I urge all those concerned to show our colors.

You know what if they were legal.. they would be paying their own taxes.. which means they would at least some what pay for what they are taking from legal citizens... but wait would our economy fail because they would do the right thing and become real citizens? Lets here that side of the coin.. why WONT they want to become citizens... ?? If they want rights... become one... legally... no they are lEACHES, they want their cake and get to eat it to!!!

Maybe it's time we look hard at the economic impact the illegals are having on our country. When they had their boycott, one Los Angeles super market chain had a 67 % drop in food stamp receipts. Now just multiply that by all the supermarkets in Hispanic hubs and that's a major impact.

Tina Griego, journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News wrote a column titled, "Mexican visitor's lament" -- 10/25/07.

She interviewed Mexican journalist Evangelina Hernandez while visiting Denver last week. Hernandez said,

"They (illegal aliens) pay rent, buy groceries, buy clothes...what happens to your country's economy if 20 million people go away?" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That's a good question – it deserves an answer. Over 80 percent of Americans demand secured borders and illegal migration stopped. But what would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America? The answers may surprise you!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In California, if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico, it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupted hospitals and overrun prisons. It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested. Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominate language again.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Colorado, 500,000 illegal migrants, plus their 300,000 kids and grand-kids – would move back "home," mostly to Mexico. That would save Coloradans an estimated $2 billion (other experts say $7 BIL) annually in taxes that pay for schooling, medical, social-services and incarceration costs. It means 12,000 gang members would vanish out of Denver alone.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals set upon local citizens. Denver Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67 percent drop out/flunk out rate via thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages. At least 200,000 vehicles would vanish from our gridlocked cities in Colorado. Denver's four percent unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living wage.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Florida, 1.5 million illegals would return the Sunshine State back to America, the rule of law and English.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Chicago, Illinois, 2.1 million illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience-----------------------------------------------------------------******************************************************
*If 20 million illegal aliens returned "home" --
******************************************************
If 20 million illegal aliens returned "home," the U.S. economy would return to the rule of law. Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage. Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn't be working off the books. That would result in an additional $401 billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local state and city coffers.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No more push '1' for Spanish or '2' for English. No more confusion in American schools that now must content with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for American kids. Our overcrowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually would vacate our country. In cities like L.A., 20,000 members of the "18th Street Gang" would vanish from our nation. No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Losing more than 20 million people would clear up our crowded highways and gridlock. Cleaner air and less drinking and driving American deaths by illegal aliens! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*******************************************************
Drain on America's economy; taxpayers harmed, employers get rich ************************************

Over $80 billion annually wouldn't return to their home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America's economy – which currently suffers an $8.7 trillion debt.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California, Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupted out of existence because illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act. Americans wouldn't suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country—brought in by illegals unscreened at our borders. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and grid locking our cities. It would also put the "progressives" on the horns of a dilemma; illegal aliens and their families cause 11 percent of our greenhouse gases-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Over one million of Mexico’s poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas to San Diego, California in what the New York Times called, “colonias” or new neighborhoods. Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta where grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes, no sanitation and worse. They live without sewage, clean water, streets, electricity, roads or any kind of sanitation. The New York Times reported them to be America’s new “Third World” inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonias. (I’ve seen them personally in Texas and Arizona; it’s sickening beyond anything you can imagine.) By enforcing our laws, we could repatriate them back to Mexico.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*******************************************************
High integrity, ethical invitation ********************
We invite 20 million aliens to go home, fix their own countries and/or make a better life in Mexico. We invite a million people into our country legally more than all other countries combined annually. We cannot and must not allow anarchy at our borders, more anarchy within our borders and growing lawlessness at every level in our nation.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Off post - Ken, would u happen to my neighbor? Sure sounds like u:)

What's the point of giving a petition to the Governor on the day a law takes effect? Moreover, a petition addressed to Congress? They're nut jobs! Learn how the system works! The law is the law, conditioned on whether it's constitutional. Send a petition when legislation is being considered, not on the day it becomes effective - and address it to the right people! Sheesh! Illegal immigrants probably know how our constitutional government works better than these bozos!

If these people don't like the law in this country, they can take their possessions which they bought with untaxed wages, pack up their one per year anchor babies, get into their vehicle which has not a penny of insurance on it and drive back home. When they get there, they can take out their Mexican flags and protest to THEIR GOVERNMENT.

Those that are against HB 1804: their solution is what was tried to get crammed down everyones throat by President Bush and Congress recently...complete and total amnesty for everyone (with the slap-on-the-wrist penalties so it didn't sound like amnesty -- the so-called "path to citizenship"). We already have a path to citizenship, it is called obeying the immigration laws. We already have a guest-worker program, it's called Green Cards. If immigrant workers are really needed (there aren't enough Americans or other legals to do the jobs, for at least minimum wage) then increse the number of green card recipients.

I was just watching the video of the protest on Channel 9. A guy in a truck was arguing with some of the pro-illegal alien protesters. Behind the women he was arguing with, an Hispanic man could be seen in the background gesticulating at the man in the truck and you could hear him saying "take you out." That is the true face and voice of many of the illegal immigrants in this country, not the "hard worker" saint we're constantly told about: people willing to make threats and commit violence if they don't get their way. I encourage everyone to watch the News 9 rebroadcast of their Six o'clock news on Cox channel 53 to watch this disturbing exchange. Today in California, the gang MS-13 has made large parts of Los Angeles unlivable. That's apparently what many of our pro-illegal alien apologists want for Oklahoma tomorrow.

for some reason out of all the ill eagle immigrant that are coming over I have only noticed Hispanics causing the biggest fuss. Why is that? This is not a case of a few; this is a case of millions. It’s too bad that they chose to organize and march across the United States and wave the Mexican flag back in may and tell U.S citizens to get out that this land is there’s. I believe that’s what really sparked the problem. We were being shoved around by Hispanics and didn’t like it very well and shoved back and now they don’t like it since they have been able to run over any one by simple invasion by numbers or by law suits keeping the path clear. It’s too bad that a group of radical Hispanics ruined it for the rest. I wonder (not really) who is really to blame for this problem. Or did 80 percent of Americans wake up one day and think hey, I think we will mess with Mexicans. Every action has a reaction

ee Harvey lets not be smallminded and somewhat of a bigot. This is not the forum for that. This is not about Mexicans this is about illegal immigration. As chance would have it 90% of the illegals here just happen to be Mexican. You can be illegal and still speak english. Just because they learned the language doesnt make them any less illegal. I work 1 blk from the Capital and I dont believe the crowd looked big enough for 1000. There are also Russian illegal immigrants who speak perfect english just ask any Game Warden in the Northwestern part of the state. This law also applies to those illegal immigrants. On a sidebar the president of the NAACP is a state employee (County Director for the DHS ofice at NE 23rd and Kelly) Does this seem like a conflict of interest to anyone else besides me?

But their injury is due more from the illegal behavior then anything else. The person doing the illegal behavior is of course going to be injured by the law, as any law breaker would be breaking a law. And their friends, family, people they work with and for will be injured just as these same people are injured if ANY law breaker is caught breaking ANY law. It is the law breaker doing the injury, putting friends, family and co-workers into harms way. Now tell me this, why do you want the status quo to continue? Shouldn't you be using this as an excuse to fix the real problem here? Is it too hard to become a legal citizen? If that is the problem, then how about fixing the problem, instead of keeping the illegal band-aid on it? The problem won't be fixed until it has to be, and now with this law if it has to be fixed, then people will be motivated to do so.

Opponents of HB 1804, did you read this. What a great way to gather signatures, at the State Fair. If HB 1804 isn't repealed by then maybe there can be a petition drive to overturn HB 1804. In the meantime, I just came from the protest at the state capitol. Two things are evident. One-the Hispanic community on Oklahoma isn't going anywhere. I heard more English speaking demonstrators than I did Spanish. Most cell phone conversations I overheard started out, "I'm at the Capitol where you should be." Need I say more. Two-the heck HB 1804 isn't racist. It became very evident as I looked at all the demonstrators with dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes. This is about holding someone back and keeping them down. It is about looking at a darker neighbor and judging his/her worth. This is about denying them the American dream. I guess for today HB 1804 stands, but that don't make it just or right.
