The Sooners have taken notice.
Tuesday, the OU ticket office began taking orders from season-ticket holders for the Dec. 2 Big 12 Championship game in Kansas City, Mo.
Meanwhile, Sooners players and coaches have done the math to produce the equation necessary for sending the Sooners on to face North Division champion Nebraska.
"I'm no dummy," OU coach Bob Stoops said. "But we have to beat Baylor this week to have that opportunity."
The Sooners must beat Baylor, then Oklahoma State the next Saturday, combined with a Texas A&M upset of the Longhorns on Nov. 24 in Austin. That's the scenario needed for OU to attain a spot in the title game, a prospect that just a week ago seemed remote.
OU and Texas each have one conference loss, however the Longhorns hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Sooners should they both finish with 7-1 league records. Thus, OU needs an A&M upset in the Longhorns' only remaining conference game.
"We're definitely aware of that, but we can't really look forward to things that aren't in our full control," quarterback Paul Thompson said. "Things still have to happen."
To some extent, things have already happened.
The Longhorns fell as a two-touchdown-plus favorite at Kansas State, losing quarterback Colt McCoy to what has been reported as a "stinger." McCoy's status for the A&M game is uncertain.
The Sooners have now won five straight — the best current streak in the conference.
