Fire Chief Jimmy Gibson said the new gear is safety rated, lighter than regular bunker gear and more conducive to fighting fires outdoors. The suits have special amenities, such as a pocket to carry a water bottle.

The department contributed $4,000 to obtain the grant, Gibson said. The money will purchase 50 suits and boots, he said.
