SAILING AWAY

Banquet: Oklahoma City Boat Club Commodore Ann Kilpatrick presided over her final banquet of the year. The outgoing officer presented annual trophies, sailing awards and recognized outstanding volunteers. The Mystery Dates Band played.

Where: Party was at the Embassy Suites.


Trophies/awards: Sailors were given awards for winning races and regattas. Kilpatrick introduced the current/outgoing board members, committee members and race committee members and presented respective officers’ flag pins. She also gave incoming Commodore Jim Blakewell the "commodore’s tie.”

RON MERCER DAY

Celebration: Mayor Bryan Taylor of Bethany issued a proclamation at a birthday open house declaring Oct. 19 as Ron Mercer Day to celebrate his 75th birthday. His wife, Yvonne Mercer, was hostess for the come-and-go event.


Treats: Chocolate and coconut birthday cakes.


Notable guests: 100 people were there including Mayor Bryan Taylor, Howard Hendrick, Arlene and Lyndon Mercer, Janie and Joe Mercer, Billie and Steve Bailey, and Davis Busic.

HONORING MADELEINE, BUCK

Occasion: Cocktail buffet and miscellaneous shower honoring Madeleine Andrezik and Buck Cody, who are planning a Jan. 9 wedding.


Party planners: Lucinda and David Huffman, Sarah and Paul Malloy, Stacey and Chris Haggard, Claudia and Jim Robertson, Cheryl and David Merritt, and Barbara and Bill Miller in the Huffman home.

FAMILY VISIT

Visitors: Corabell and Joe Arps, and their daughter and children, Elizabeth Arps and Audrey and Connor of Bangor, Maine, were in Oklahoma City to visit Corabell’s sister and brother-in-law, Lela and Mark Sullivan. They came for Oklahoma State University’s homecoming weekend, as Corabell and Elizabeth Arps are OSU alumni.


Party: Lela and Mark Sullivan entertained at an open house in honor of their guests.


Seen: Mary Jane Hemry, Mitos Lowrey, Barbara Beeler, Kathy and Russ Walker, Suzy and David Bennett, and Connell and Cliff Branan.


Other activities: The group went to the Oklahoma City Zoo and had a shopping trip to Langston’s for cowboy boots.

CLASS OF 1959

Party time: Members of the 1959 class of Putnam City High School celebrated with a 50-year reunion dinner at Coles Garden. It was one of the activities during reunion weekend. This class was the first to graduate from the "original PHS” at NW 50 and Ann Arbor.


Program: Master of ceremonies was Trent Cornman and David Padgett. George Lawson was 1959 class president and spoke during dinner. Thirteen couples who have been married at least 50 years were recognized. Maureen (Townsend) Williams created a slide show for the event.


Other events: Alumni association members had a pancake breakfast, then everyone visited the Putnam City School Museum for a dedication. Lynn and Trent Cornman hosted a barbecue dinner, and the 1959 class was honored at the All Class Reunion.

ANNUAL NAVY BIRTHDAY BALL

Celebrating: The Navy Ball was at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and was held by the Navy Wing at Tinker Air Force Base, Strategic Communications Wing 1, the Oklahoma City Navy League and the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce.


Traditions: The black- tie event featured B.J. Penn, former assistant secretary of the Navy for installations and environment, as guest speaker. There was also a tribute to missing comrades and recognition of the wing’s sailors of the year and Kimberly Clark award winner.


Hosts: Capt. Dwight Shepherd, commander of Strategic Communications Wing 1; retired Capt. Gus Gudmunson, Navy League president; Roy Williams, chamber president.

KIWANIS INAUGURAL

94th president: Kyle L. McLain is the new president of Downtown Kiwanis Club, and the group held an inaugural dinner in honor of the occasion.


Scottish theme: At the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club where the party was held, the entryway was decorated with such items as the McLain tartan, unusual rocks from Scotland and the McLain family crest. Nametags were shaped like a thistle, the flower of Scotland. Highlanders played the bagpipes.


Menu: A Scottish menu was served, which included beef tenderloin, salmon, "tatties” (potatoes), assorted colorful vegetables, coleslaw (not sweet), green salad with "crowdie” (goat cheese) and shortbread cookies.


Speaker: Noma Gurich introduced past presidents.


Surprise party favors: Shot glasses with the Kiwanis logo and president’s name were filled with MacLellan Scotch or ginger ale for Scottish toasts.

LUNCH AND GUEST ARTIST

Who: Ladies Music Club members were at the Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club for the fall luncheon and guest artist program. President Erma Stewart welcomed members and guests. Freida Dailey was luncheon chairman.


Fashion show: Models for the show were club members Faye Boles, Susan Carney, Kathryn Cashion, Gayle Miller, Colleen Montgomery, Ezell Potter, Jacque Winton and Pam Woolbright.


Musical performance: Jin Ju, Florence, Italy, played the piano with selections composed by Frederic Chopin and Jorg Demus.

OSU ARTS AND SCIENCES

Homecoming reception: 100 alumni and friends of the College of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma State University attended the homecoming reception in newly renovated Murray Hall in Stillwater.


Welcome: Alumni Board President Timothy Geib welcomed the group. Peter M.A. Sherwood, Arts and Sciences dean, gave remarks.


What happened: The classes of 1984 and 1959 were honored, with each member receiving a 25- or 50-year pin. Special guests also included Marlene Strathe, provost and senior vice president of OSU, and members of the college’s alumni board.
