ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Sean Parnell has named the new commander of the Alaska National Guard.
Brig. Gen. Thomas Katkus was named Monday as adjutant general of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, where he was serving as acting commissioner.
The adjutant general serves as the Guard's commander and oversees the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
Katkus replaces Lt. General Craig E. Campbell, who was sworn in as lieutenant governor in August.
