There couldn't have been a better time for Oklahoma State's final bye week.

Head coach Mike Gundy, top, watches as OSU's Brandon Pettigrew (87) is examined after being hurt in the second half during the college football game between Oklahoma State University and University of Colorado at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo., Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. Pettigrew later came back into the game. OSU won, 30-17. BY NATE BILLINGS, THE OKLAHOMAN

It just happens to fall right after the game in which the injury bug nagged at the Cowboys the most this season.

The good news is that none of the injuries are believed to be serious. The better news is that everyone has the week to heal up before hosting Oklahoma Nov. 29.

Running back Kendall Hunter bruised his quadriceps, but co-offensive coordinator Gunter Brewer said he could have returned to the game if necessary.

Cornerback Perrish Cox (arm) and backup running back Keith Toston (stomach) each came back in the game after missing time with minor injuries.

And let no one question the toughness of tight end Brandon Pettigrew. He took a shot to the head that left him lying on the ground for a couple minutes. After returning, he dislocated a finger. But he still returned and caught two passes in the fourth quarter.

“We're only going to practice twice next week,” OSU coach Mike Gundy said. “We're going to let them have some days off. They've earned it.”

Whew! seeing Pettigrew taking that shot had me worried for a while. It was bound to happen after sending him across the middle like that all night. Such is the life of a great tight end. GO POKES
