The battle for the crown of best running back in Oklahoma just got a little more intriguing.

Oklahoma State running back Kendall Hunter joined Oklahoma running backs DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown on the watch list for the Doak Walker Award which was released on Tuesday.

Multimedia

Hunter, a returning All-American, rushed for 1,555 yards and 16 touchdowns as a sophomore. The junior was the Big 12 conference rushing champion in 2008.

Brown, a senior, led the Sooners with 1,220 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns while Murray, a junior, contributed 1,038 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 2008.

The duo joined Sam Bradford to become the first backfield in NCAA history with a 4,000-yard passer and a pair of 1,000-yard rushers.

The semifinalists will be selected Nov. 11, the finalists will be announced on Nov. 23 and the award will be presented live on ESPN on Dec. 10.

The headline is not a comment on the schools, it just means that OU sent in it's "watch list" preferences before OSU did, so...Murray and Brown were already on the list when Hunter's name showed up. Use your common sense, folks! There's a great fb season coming up!

"Or maybe she does root for OU but is intelligent enough to make rational, unbiased statements."

YES! A lot of OU fans can't imagine anyone who says anything that is not completely 100% positive for OU is an OU fan. That is why it is so hard to have a reasonable conversation about sports with so many of them. Don't get me wrong, not all of them, just a lot of them. There have been a bunch of times I start talking about sports and they immediately go into arrogant douche mode, I don't understand why it is acceptable socially.

The battle for the rushing crown in Oklahoma? Um, I'm fairly sure Hunter wins this battle pretty easily. And yes, the two OU backs will be joining him, not vice versa.

And Jiohdee, just because somebody lives in a certain city doesn't mean they should have to root for any certain school. Or maybe she does root for OU but is intelligent enough to make rational, unbiased statements.

This is for the guy that doesn't have the guts to use his real name in his emails. The fact that you use OSUfans as part of your user name tells me that you have this inner desire to root for OSU. You likely hope to maybe even attend OSU once you graduate from high school. As for the country taking OSU seriously, you should ask Bob Stoops if he takes us seriously. Why do you think that he prefers to play us later in the year? I hope to see you this Saturday at OSU fan appreciation day since you are an OSUfan.

The nation takes OSU more seriously than its home state. That is the world we live in. ESPN gives OSU more than enough coverage. Gundy just spent three days there doing interviews. I'd say you are wrong once again 1stclassloser.

This paper is a dope.... The individual schools of these players send in there candidates for this award and then in October, each Division I-A college or university is given the additional opportunity to nominate a candidate or to nominate a replacement for a preseason candidate who may not have performed according to preseason expectations........OH BTW Kendall was the only semi-finalist (top 10) from this state last yr and Chris Brown was never on it....Bias reporting every single day, every single article sucks.....

Gehra, don't worry about the headlines, just being osu speaks volume, nobody in the nation takes them serious, why should you?
ANIMAL HUSBANDRY, UNIVERSITY - Aug 5, 2009 at 8:26 am

Jiohdee, atlanta - Aug 5, 2009 at 7:21 am
I totally agree with you Gehra but it also makes me realize you haven't lived in the 405 for very long.

Considering Kendall is the top returning All-American back, shouldn't the headline read - Oklahoma's DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown joins Oklahoma State's Kendall Hunter on watch list?
