Oklahoma's H1N1 flu doses up, priorities expand
Published: November 11, 2009
State health officials say they’ve expanded the list of priority groups to get the swine flu vaccination and that 80,000 more doses are expected this week.
New groups that may be vaccinated include young adults age 19 to 24, all health care and day care workers or other caregivers of babies less than six months old. Priority already has been given to parents of infants, front-line health care workers, pregnant women, children and adults up to age 65 with chronic illness. H1N1 flu remains widespread across the state with 22 deaths this year and more than 800 cases reported since Sept. 1. Most deaths have been reported in people younger than 65 years old. Those older than 65 are most at risk for seasonal flu. At some point, supplies will allow vaccinations to be offered to everyone, said Larry Weatherford of the state Health Department. Vaccinations sites by county are listed at www.health.ok.gov. In Oklahoma County, clinics are planned Saturday at Star Spencer High School and Douglass Mid-High School and Nov. 21 at Northwest Classen High School.
