Last year in February, my mother was watching Livia (full name Miss Lovely Livia Louise Alsept), our Chihuahua, and her two Chihuahuas. She took them outside, and two little kids wanted to play with them. Well, my Livia got scared and ran away.

My mother told the little ones not to chase her, to wait, and Livia would come back home by herself. She did come back a little while later, and the little boy saw her and again ran after her.

I got home about an hour later, and my mother was searching frantically looking for Livia. She was nowhere to be found, and I looked until it got too dark to look anymore. The next day, I printed up fliers and placed them all over the apartments I lived in and all over the area. I looked and searched every day to no avail. My heart was broken.

Six weeks later, the groundskeeper of the apartments called me saying he had seen Livia but could not catch her. I didn’t believe him until he mentioned the purple collar she was wearing when she ran away. For a week and a half, I put out food for her and searched the field where she was spotted, again to no avail. I didn’t know what to do to capture her and bring her home. The groundskeeper looked each day, and she would run from him every time he tried to catch her. He suggested I go to the local animal shelter and rent a live cat trap. I did, and the next day, I finally succeeded and brought her home.

I immediately took her to the vet, and they said the first week was the most critical because she was in such bad shape. She was dehydrated and had lost 3 pounds. I brought her back to life, and she now is doing so much better under my watchful eye. It’s a miracle that she made it through six weeks of cold, ice storms and all other weather conditions. She is my little angel.
