Lake Texoma fishing guide Steve Barnes, reports catching limits of decent stripers in the mornings and afternoons, but the afternoon fishing has been producing bigger fish.

"Most fish have been caught on river ledges in 30 to 40 foot of water with live shad and some topwater action early,” said Barnes of Denison, Texas.

"The lake has already turned over, so the fall bite has started early. The quality of the fish is much better than it was last year.”

RV show begins Thursday
The Central Oklahoma RV Dealer Association’s annual free fall RV show and closeout sale opens Thursday at State Fair Park.

The show runs through Oct. 12. Show hours each day are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., except on Sunday when it closes at 6 p.m.

On display will be motorhomes, fifth-wheels, travel trailers, sport utility RVs and pop-up campers.

Admission is free.

Quail hunting
After two terrible quail seasons, members of the Central Oklahoma 89er Chapter of Quail Forever are seeing and hearing more quail this year, including some large coveys in places where there haven’t been quail for years.

Native pastures that are not over-grazed appear to have lots of quail.

Quail season opens Nov. 8.

Charity bass event at Foss
A bass tournament to benefit the Oklahoma Memorial Medical Research Foundation will be held Oct. 12 on Foss Lake.

The 23rd Frank Wohl Memorial Bass Tournament also will hold a banquet, raffle and auction on Saturday, the day before the event.

Wohl was a Clinton businessman and fishing enthusiast who died of cancer in 1985.
