Oklahoma City woman accidentally shoots husband, self during domestic incident

A tussle between a husband and wife over a loaded handgun ended with both suffering from gunshot wounds this evening in their southwest Oklahoma City home, police said.

Neither was seriously injured, but both were taken to a local hospital, Oklahoma City police Sgt. Daniel Stewart said.

Carolyn Burchett, 46, will be arrested on a complaint of domestic assault and battery when doctors discharge her. She may also face an assault with a dangerous weapon charge, he said.

Burchett is accused of pulling the gun from her makeup bag and struggling with her husband before it was accidentally fired, leaving the pair with superficial wounds, Stewart said.

The husband’s name was not released by police.
