The latest innovator is Oklahoma City resident and Bethany businessman Steve Glass, whose invention has been featured in Buckmasters Magazine, Bowhunter Magazine and Whitetail Journal, just to name a few.

Glass’ main job is selling life and health insurance but his main pastime is hunting.

After a couple of nice bucks taken by his son on a northwest Oklahoma hunting trip spoil in the heat, Glass started to devise a way to keep the animals preserved until they could be taken to a taxidermist.

He sketched an idea for an insulated bag to keep the meat cold and insects off the carcass. He then contacted Covercraft Industries in Pauls Valley, which had repaired his boat seats, and selected a radiant barrier material for the inside of the bag.

After a couple of years in the making, Glass has patented and now selling his "Trophy Bag Kooler” product, which debuted at the Backwoods Show in Oklahoma City earlier this year.

Hunters put their gutted deer, hog or antelope in the bag, add ice (double-bagged is suggested to prevent moisture getting on the animal) or cooler gel packs in the body cavity and around the head and hind quarters to keep it preserved for hours, Glass said.

"I’ve kept deer in those in 80 and 85 degree temperatures for several days,” he said.

The bag is designed with openings for antlers and legs. Glass said he’s received orders from 30 states for the bags, the most coming from Texas.

"It’s always hot down there,” he said.

Glass said he is not worried about introducing a new product at a time when the economy is ailing.

"When the economy is good, guys are going to hunt,” he said. ‘When the economy is bad, guys are going to hunt.”
