Friends of Oklahoma City resident David Mendoza can now say they know someone who has won a contest.
Mendoza, 24, recently won a 2010
Chevrolet Camaro through a contest by Circle K convenience stores and
Dr Pepper.
He submitted an entry every day throughout the 3-month contest period to win the car, which features a custom "red jewel tint” paint job that mimics the color of a Dr Pepper can.
He said he was shocked when contest officials contacted him.
"I didn’t believe them until I got the paperwork,” he said.
Mendoza, a student at the
University of Central Oklahoma who is studying to become a physical therapist, picked up the car at
Marc Heitz Chevrolet in
Norman about two weeks ago.
"It’s a great deal. They literally just show up and take that car home,” said
Ben Hayes, new car sales manager.
Dr Pepper and Circle K gave away 23 of the cars nationally, and an undisclosed amount through a local contest — which is what Mendoza won, Hayes said.
A second local winner also picked up his Camaro at the Norman dealership, but traded it in for a 2010 Camaro with a V8 engine, Hayes said.
