New fund aims to help homeless Colorado vets

DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is starting a new fund to help homeless veterans get housing.
The coalition estimated this week that about 3,000 veterans are homeless in Colorado on any given night, including about 1,800 in the Denver area.
The fund is designed to get veterans into housing more quickly than the Department of Veterans Affairs can. It will also help the veterans get treatment for war-related trauma and other problems.
John Parvensky, president of the coalition, said the group is working with the Denver VA Medical Center, the Denver Street Outreach Collaborative and emergency shelters across the state.
The VA estimates that nationwide, about 131,000 veterans are homeless on any given night.
