Teen named to board

An Oklahoma City teen was named to the 2009 Youth Advisory Board of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The alliance is a joint initiative between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation.

Scotie Conner and 24 other youth will help inspire children to make healthy behavior changes and to become leaders and advocates for healthy eating and physical activity. Conner said he strives to be healthy.

"The family history of diabetes and heart problems compels me to make healthy choices,” he said. "Also, I realize that, as a 16-year-old, my mind and my habits are still developing. If I learn to make healthy choices and make that a part of my everyday life now, then in the future it will be second nature to me.”

Topics will cover the state’s leading health issues that affect the quality of life for all Oklahomans and will feature special youth and community messages. An advance registration of $35 is available if paid by Nov. 15, with the cost increasing to $50 at the door. To register online, go to www.okturning point.org.
