TULSA - The Tulsa County Health Department is investigating a case of food poisoning at a south Tulsa private school.

A spokeswoman for the Health Department, Melanie Christian, says officials at Holland Hall contacted the agency on Friday after several students and faculty became sick after eating fruit salad.

Christian says officials suspect it was caused by some bad watermelon.

According to an announcement on Holland Hall's Web site, the incident affected all areas of the school. Those affected experienced nausea and vomiting about 30 minutes after eating and felt better within an hour.

Christian says the number of people sickened has not been determined. Food inspectors and epidemiologists conducted interviews and took food samples on Friday.

The school's cafeteria was closed Monday as a precaution.

Usually if school food is going to make you sick its from Sysco. Its not from any food borne illness but its from the zero percent fiber content. Sysco school food is nothing but starch and fat. Its even worse at summer camps. A lot of summer camps like the ones operated by the BGCO use Sysco. All they serve is what can be put in the oven or fryer. They don't even hire any cooks, they hire heaters. Now I get replies from people who say Falls Creek food is great. But that is your cabin where Aunt Edna shops for weeks and cooks homemade pot roast and fresh wheat rolls. I'm talking about the staff cafeteria. Then there are the other camps. I should know. I worked there for 3 summers back in 1995,96,97 and my doctor wondered if I had heart problems. The next year I got a bill of health because I worked the full summer at Windemere.
