Harrel appointed to second 9-year term on board of regents

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Jimmy Harrel has been appointed to another nine-year term on the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

Harrel was originally appointed to the board that oversees the state's colleges and universities in 1999 and Gov. Brad Henry recommended he serve a second term.

The state Senate confirmed the governor's appointment.

Harrel is the chairman and chief executive officer of the Bank of Western Oklahoma. He holds a bachelor's degree in animal science and vocational agriculture education from Oklahoma State University.

Harrel currently owns a ranch in Leedey. He previously was a high school principal, vocational agriculture instructor and basketball coach in Taloga.
