"Medical costs alone run us about $100,000 a year,” said
Ron Wingler, operations manager of Free To Live Sanctuary north of Edmond.
Donations are down this year for the no-kill animal sanctuary for stray, abandoned or abused animals.
So the shelter is counting on its fourth annual Free To Live Golf Tournament and Silent Auction to turn the tide.
"Over the past three years the tournament has raised about $100,000 total,” Wingler said.
This year’s tournament is Aug. 17 at Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond. In addition, Wingler said an anonymous donor has agreed to match all donations up to $10,000 during the month of July.
Free To Live is seeking business and individual hole and clubhouse sponsors and items for the silent auction.
The tournament’s registration fee is $150 per person, or $600 for a team of four. The registration fee includes continental breakfast, a round of golf with cart, lunch, drinks on the course, hole-in-one contest and great prizes.
"The number of players is limited so it’s important to get registrations in early,” Wingler said.
