Planetwide Media wants to make it easier for comic-book fans to create their own comics. The company has several PC software options allowing fans to create manga, Marvel superhero comics and more.

In the "Marvel Heroes Comic Book Creator” version of the "Comic Book Creator” software, simply drag and drop art from the Marvel Comics archives to make your own comic, then add sound effects and dialogue.

Characters include Spider-Man, Wolverine, Elektra, Magneto, Dr. Doom and the Green Goblin. In the Marvel version, you can't import your own artwork, preventing any unauthorized Marvel crossovers.

The package retails for $29.99 and has more than 300 pieces of Marvel art, more than 100 design templates, and includes clip art, logos and icons. Images also can be resized and rotated to fit the story.

The Tokyopop Manga creator uses a similar engine, but with artwork from Tokyopop's manga line. The "Speed Racer” Comic Book Creator uses artwork from the classic animated racing series.

In "Comic Book Creator” 2.0, users can use their artwork or import photos, audio or video.

Users can save their comics, print them or publish them on the Internet. To see comics created on Comic Book Creator by users, go online to www.hypercomics .com.

Godzilla coming to PS2
While the PlayStation 3 is Sony's top-of-the-line console, there's still some kick in the PlayStation 2, which with more than 100 million units shipped worldwide, is still one of the all-time best-selling game consoles.

Atari announced last week that "Godzilla Unleashed” will appear on PlayStation 2, in addition to its previously planned release on the Wii console and the Nintendo DS handheld.

"Godzilla: Unleashed” stars the classic Japanese monster in interactive 3-D environments.

"We are excited to bring ‘Godzilla: Unleashed' to the PlayStation 2 system,” said Keehwan Her, producer at Atari Inc., in a release. "We've made some interesting adaptations from past Godzilla games, so players will encounter different story modes, new monster abilities and more flexible multiplayer capabilities, ensuring a must-have Godzilla experience.”

"Godzilla Unleashed” is developed by Pipeworks and set for a fall 2007 release.
