Racing frogs is still thrilling at Camp DaKaNi, decades after the tradition began.

"It’s a really exciting time for all of them,” said Michaelanne Stilwell, spokeswoman for the Heart of Oklahoma Council of Camp Fire USA. "When they lift the box to let the competitors go, you should hear the screams from the kids.”

Every Wednesday each summer, DaKaNi campers race their frogs and turtles. The animals can be brought from home or caught at camp. The races have been a tradition at Camp DaKaNi since at least the 1960s, Stilwell said.

"The races are something the kids always look forward to and something they usually always remember,” she said.

This is the last week of summer camp this year at Camp DaKaNi.
