Jones filed a wrongful termination lawsuit Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court.

He alleges his dismissal was "for reasons of personal malice and spite and not for any authorized cause.”

Five directors on the charity’s board fired him Friday.

Jones is asking for "reinstatement of his position,” compensation for the lost value of his contract and for "dignitary harms,” and punitive damages against each director.

Defendants in the lawsuit are Feed The Children and directors Rick England, Leo Fundaro, C. Earnest Wyatt, Dan Mugg and Mary Schrick.

He also wants a judge to issue a temporary restraining order, barring the charity from using his name, likeness or voice unless he signs off on the use. He told the charity on Friday to stop using his name but alleges it still is . A hearing on his request is set for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 17.

The charity’s attorneys said Tuesday, "There is no need for a temporary restraining order because we are doing everything possible to get his name and photo off of anything to do with Feed The Children. … We are as interested in getting his name off as he is.”

Jones founded the Oklahoma City-based charity 30 years ago. He has called it his ministry. He became the face of the organization through his appearances on frequent televised fundraising appeals.

His attorney, Mark Hammons, said Friday, "To be taken away from something that you create yourself and that you have so much time, so much energy and so much emotion invested in, it’s just awful.”

The charity did not disclose why Jones was fired. However, the dismissal came after Jones admitted having hidden microphones placed in three executives’ offices last April.

Jones was at odds with those executives and most of the directors. Jones contends he violated no laws because he intended to record only his own conversations.

The owner of the company that installed the microphones told police employees could not get a recorder to work.

Sounds like old Larry is worried about missing out on his $230,000+ yearly salary!

Regarding watchdog ratings etc.and what can be gleaned from FTC IRS financial s. Charity Navigator only uses audit/IRS numbers to provide comparative statistical analysis. For instance they make no distinction between cash and GIK when compiling income/expense efficiency ratios. They are in the process of changing that to include such things as % of gift-in-kind, actual "cash" raised, effectiveness, efficiency, legal exposure, board oversight etc. The American Institute of Philanthropy are just folks evaluating many factors (rightfully or wrongfully).

Philanthropy Today and Non-Profit Times the two most respected NGO newpaper/web-sites only report report self generated/third party articles but do not do comparative analysis.

As an example of what all this means-of the approximate 1 billion dollars raised 90% was Gift in Kind and only 10%-$100,000,000 was cash from donors. Of the cash raised approximately 75% or $75,000,000 was paid to third parties for fund-raising i.e. TV, mailings, photo shoots etc. Therefore Charity Navigator's rating looks good since they show only 7.5 % used for fund-raising ($75,000,000 of the total 1 billion raised). But when you consider the ratio without GIK (that are donated items like eyeglasses/books etc. from large corporations) the percentage of fund-raising costs to total cash received is approximately 75%. No other charity even comes close to this huge fund-raising cost. BTW-this only leaves approximately $25,000,000 for all overhead, operating expenses etc. AIP looks at the big picture and that's why they rate FTC so low.

On another issue-why did the old directors file suit in the first place. Please read the minutes of the FTC board meetings posted at NewsOK. Can one disagree with the rules the board for months had been trying to implement in order to control Larry's spending like wasted dollars on Allen and $250,000 to golfer Lee Janzen to wear a FTC t-shirt? How about the unapproved spending of approximately $75,000,000 (75% of all cash raised) for fund raising paid to Affiliated Media et.al. a company, who also employed Allen and owned by 2 former FTC employees i.e. Joe and Van.

Larry, under the cover of darkness and without the knowledge of his old board, attempted a "coup" using his buddies for a new board. Do you wonder why NONE of the new board guys, Larry's friends, who got thrown out by the Judge have not spoken up for Larry? The judge agreed with the old directors and Larry lost. So, to be fair, some would say maybe FTC shouldn't pay their legal fees but Larry and his "coup" buddies should, since he/they started the whole mess by violating the trust of the old board.

OK Larry lets get real! My postings here and elsewhere have been honest, fair and caring but I’ve had enough of your “misdirections” and “excuses”.

You say the board fired you because YOU convinced the judge not to pay their legal fees? That excuse is WEAK!!! VERY WEAK!!!! Why?? Because the board months ago wanted you to take a sabbatical so you attempted a “coup” to replace them with your buddies. But, the Judge threw you out of court and it didn’t work and the original board got stuck with the legal bills for your “coup”. Man, you should pay their legal bills, that is if you have any money that didn’t come from your phony appeals for “hungry children”.

You say they fired you because of the wire-taps” and you claim they weren’t illegal?

Now come on Larry, if you’re telling the truth and all you wanted to do legally was record your own conversations with the 3 key officers you “bugged” to protect yourself-why didn’t you just put a recorder on your own phone and/or carry a concealed tape recorder with you when you were in meetings with them?? Got an answer for that????? The police aren’t stupid and they along with the DA are gonna get you.

And now you have approved your lawyers demand to remove all your pictures etc.from FTC stuff. Hey man, lots of great employees and wonderful donors MADE FTC-not you. All you did was screw it up! To me Larry you’re sounding like a very un-Christian, vindictive person and you should be ashamed!!

Quit making excuses that don’t make sense and stop blaming others! You did all this to yourself and drug your family, trusting donors and employees into an inferno!!

And, stop using your worn-out “hungry children” phrase to gain sympathy. Trust me, the children will survive as they can live without your truckloads of bottled water, soda pop etc. that you count as food.

The caring folks in this world will now give their donations to “reputable, accountable” humanitarian organizations and the children will be truly served!

Be a MAN Larry and take your medicine! And by the way-since you never, ever express pain about what they have gone through-your own family is paying an unbelievably heavy price for your ego. Stop abusing them!!!!!

Darrin, Oklahoma City - Nov 11, 2009 at 3:07 pm
They had their IRS form 990 that has everything about their financial information on their page for a long time but it has been taken down. Maybe Larry Jones is making them take that down too since it has his name on it. Wonder how they can even drive their trucks full of food around since he made sure his name was PLASTERED all over them. And why are people arguing about churches here? This charity isn't a church. It takes donations of cash, it takes donations of food, it transports that food to churches and food banks. Being a christian organization doesn't mean church.
James, Oklahoma City - Nov 11, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Gee, you think when you have spent 30 years having your name and face being plastered all over ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING YOUR COMPANY HAS EVER PRINTED, PUBLISHED, BROADCAST OR IN ANY WAY USED that maybe it will take them more than a few days to remove it all? Try to remember that you ran your charity like you were a celebrity Larry Jones. Even most companies run by egomaniacs don't have their name and face on literally EVERYTHING. And stop crying about how little children will go hungry this Christmas because they fired you. You are the one preventing them from using any of their fundraising material over the holidays.

Jeff, not true! I know of a church that is giving away and delivering over 500 free thanksgiving dinners...No strings attached! You speak of things you don't have facts on!
BILLY, MUSTANG - Nov 11, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Larry, it is time you rode off into the sunset. Your name has done so much damage to this organization. I for one, will never support FTC under your leadership because I do not trust you to be a good steward of my money.
Rachel, Edmond - Nov 11, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Isn't FTC desiganted as a 'for-profit' organizaton? That pretty well says it all...
Kevin, Oklahoma City - Nov 11, 2009 at 11:53 am
Amy, I'm sorry you feel that way about churches. I was the treasurer of our church for two years and I can assure you that ours is different. I think when you look at most churches, you'll see that they are different too. In our church 100% of money designated for missions went to missionaries and missions projects. Unfortunately, there are some that don't run their mission appropriately; however, my experience is that there are more good than bad.

This isn't the transparent organization I'd hoped that it would be at a time like this. Names of board members are omitted, their "Financial Accountability" page lists three items (91% to programs, 6% to fundraising, 3% to management), and their "In The News" section omits all critical coverage. Whoever is in charge should be out in front talking about the plan to rehabilitate a $1 billion relief organization and return it to its roots. No need to mention Larry Jones by name, simply state what is being done to fix things and perform its mission.

Amy You don't have a clue what you are talking about. There are church's that do many charitable things with the money. There are offerings that 100% go to the intended mission effort. Let the church's quit ministering to the needy and see how that works out. With that said Larry Jones is WRONG to sue!
BILLY, MUSTANG - Nov 11, 2009 at 11:06 am
Burt, you sound like you are little disgruntled with the BGCO. I thought the comments for this section were directed towards the Larry Jones article? Like others, I am not sure of the details of this issue, but it is unfortunate that what were once agencies of the highest integrity, sometimes find themselves desecrated by infighting and tumult. I guess that shows that the enemy is still alive and well and doing everything in his power to corrupt Godly efforts. As for your misguided comments about the BGCO, why would they seek to address this issue at their convention. FTC is NOT a Baptist organization - it is independent and non-denominational. You are also misguided about you comments on how the Cooperative Program operates. FYI is it reponsible for seeing that over 4000 international missionaries have housing and support and it uses over 90% of dollars given to fund missionary efforts. As for Anthony Jordan, I doubt you would be able to walk but a few feet in his shoes. He is humble Christian man who's sole calling in life is to see people's lives changed by the gospel. Your callous remarks are so off base, I won't dignify them with a response.

I don't know any of the inside details but I can obviously see that have lost track of their purpose. "Feed The Children"
This does not sound like passionate men or "Christlike Behavior"
It is sad. The root of all evil is the love of money.
Michael, Oklahoma City - Nov 11, 2009 at 10:52 am
Why would you donate to FTC I mean Larry Jones. Have you seen his house? It is a mansion. ALl this is is a tax shelter.
You shouldn't give to any church organization because all that happens with the money is that these so called pastors go and splurge on luxury items for themselves.
There are some (very few) churches that actually are okay.
Don't you love making a millionaire rich?

I think direct missions is better, administrations tend to pad costs.
As far as FTC, I wished the idea and the public perception of the mission well, not so much as the organization.
But Larry Jones is a ego manic on par with the likes of Bennett,McClendon,Gaylord.
DOK took so long to get board members names ,shouts the lack of research, investigative journalism or maybe its the lack of care in doing anything community and honorable of the profession.

I think its hilarious that the BGCO annual "Baptist" convention is going on and there is nay any news about it. I stopped attending when I realized it was a bastion of hypocrisy and deceit. This is the grass roots of your back door deals made with pastors as to who will be the token leader of the convention for a year. People often forget that Anthony Jordan is the high and holy dictator and anyone else below him is a token. This year's token was a native American which they made a big deal when he was "elected". But that was orchestrated to generate both support from tribes, casino operations, and news outlets. The BGCO will install any president who will bring attention or financial support to them. The BGCO is a huge money pit consuming money in the name of missions for Jordan's million dollar salary and Lincoln Navigator allowance. For ever dollar a church sends to the BGCO in the name of "The Cooperative Program" that monstrosity consumes 90 cents of it for operations. 10 cents of the dollar can then be used for missions.
Its better for a Baptist church to bypass the BGCO and send funds directly to independent missionaries. That way 100 percent of the funds reach the field. If the 10 percent of the funds that leave 3800 N. May go to Richmond, VA, they will take another 9 cents for their lucrative salaries out there. Therefore if a church sends a dollar to 3800 N. May for missions, then 1 cent of it makes it to the field. Direct Missions is the way to go!

This is a warning sign of many "charitable" organizations. Not much charity is making it to those who need it. I would like to see a percentage of every dollar donated that actually makes it to those people and causes in need. Think about how much time, effort, and resources will go towards legally sorting this issue out then paying punative damages, etc... No longer "feed the children", it is now - feed the administration.
