THE VILLAGE — Chandra Thomas usually takes her two sons to Oklahoma City parks during the summer months so they can access spraygrounds.

She said she prefers spraygrounds to pools because of their safety, but she wishes there was a facility within walking distance of her home in The Village.

"It would be more convenient for me because I wouldn’t have to drive them there, and then spend all day waiting for them to get done,” Thomas said.

City Manager Bruce Stone said residents have suggested building a water facility in The Village for years.

The cost to maintain and operate a swimming pool is too high, but city officials are hoping to install a sprayground, Stone said.

"It would be a low-cost option and hardly any staff would be needed to operate it,” he said.

City officials hosted The Village Fall Fun Fair on Saturday to help raise money for a future sprayground, which they estimate would cost from $75,000 to $175,000 to build.

More than 1,000 people attended the seven-hour fair at Duffner Park.

The event included a Halloween costume contest, musicians, dancing, a cake walk, an auction, pumpkin painting, martial arts, a limbo contest, children’s activities, pony rides, a petting zoo and face painting.

The amount raised wasn’t available Monday.

Wow, maybe a story before the fundraiser would have been good?
