WICHITA, Kan. — A Kansas dog treat maker being investigated by the Environmental Protection Agency said Thursday it has not caused any environmental harm and its products are safe.

Documents obtained by The Associated Press from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment detailed a history of violations and confrontations between government regulators and TreatCo, one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of natural dog treats.

The EPA and other agencies executed a federal search warrant on April 16, saying it was investigating environmental and other alleged federal crimes. Agents also searched the facility in January 1998, records show.

Among the concerns cited by the health department in 2007 was the disposal of material from a chemical company at the TreatCo plant. TreatCo entered into a consent agreement with Wichita in 2008 in which it admitted no wrongdoing but agreed to pay $12,700 in fines.

The city contended TreatCo was receiving waste petroleum oil generated off site and discharging it into the city sewers.

TreatCo advertises that they make "all natural" treats and biscuits. I guess if you want to argue the point, crude oil is a natural product of nature. So is pneumonia, mono, hepatitis, syphilis, influenza, and anthrax. This is one of those companies who probably sells their carbon credits.
