Dubai investigator: map linked to Chechen slaying
Published: October 26, 2009
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A police official investigating the slaying a former Chechen warlord in Dubai last spring says a hand-drawn map of the murder scene was found in an apartment linked to the two suspects.
The court testimony Monday gave the first public details of the probe after the March slaying of Sulim Yamadayev — a bitter foe of Chechnya's Moscow-backed president.
The investigator, Ahmed al-Marri, says authorities discovered the apartment and map after tracking two Russian brothers believed involved in the shooting.
The brothers fled Dubai. But two men — from Iran and Tajikistan — were arrested on charges of aiding the suspected killers. They have pleaded not guilty.
The trial was adjourned until Nov. 16.
