ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A jury is still trying to reach a verdict on whether an Ohio police chief broke into the home of the woman who was carrying twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.
Deliberations resumed Monday in the trial of suspended Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter. He's charged in an alleged scheme to take items from the eastern Ohio home of surrogate Michelle Ross in hopes of selling them to celebrity photographers.
Jurors got the case Friday and deliberated about five hours before breaking off for the weekend.
In closing arguments, a prosecutor said Carpenter abused his authority and then tried to say it was all "a joke."
A defense lawyer said Carpenter admits he acted stupidly, but not criminally.
