BRANSCUM Shirley Branscum, age 51, of Moore, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at her home in Moore. She began working for General Motors in Midwest City in 1979. While at GM she met the love of her life, Ronnie A. Branscum. They were married on September 14, 1982 in OKC. Shirley worked at GM for 30 years before retiring with the company. She was a member of the UAW and was a loyal and hard working employee. She is survived by husband, Ronnie Branscum of the home in Moore, 2 sons, Rodney and Mickey Branscum both of Norman, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at Union Hill Baptist Church, west of Purcell. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

CHILDRESS In Loving Memory of Mary Ellen Hancock Childress Mary Ellen Hancock Childress, the light of our world, entered this life on June 11, 1966, and left her life here on earth on October 29, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. Loving wife of William "Jeff" Childress, whom she married on June 28, 1985; she had found her one and only soul mate. During their 24 wonderful years of marriage, and out of Love, the Lord blessed them with three beautiful children: Rachel S. Childress, William J. Childress II, and Johnathan Herald Lloyd Childress. To all of those who knew her, Mary was the best mother in the world, and her children very much agree. To her family members, her nicknames included Mellen, Mimi A Boo, and George. Mary graduated from LaPoynor High School in Poynor, Texas in 1984. After her marriage to Jeff, they lived in the Athens area until they packed up and moved to Elmore City, Oklahoma, and surrounding area, where they lived for the better part of ten years. In that time, her children acquired many very loyal and best friends: Heather, Chad, Marc, and April became known as "The Kids," and they belonged to her, and she became "Mom" to them as well. She would always say if the kids ever have children, she wanted them to call her "Big Mama." While in Oklahoma, she discovered her passion, the Casinos, and Loved to go and win big. In January of this year, she was diagnosed with cancer, and in May, with Jeff knowing that her heart was still in Texas, brought her home to live with her sister and her greatnephew, Brighton. During those months, she got to know them and Love them and to share the many wonderful memories of her life. She Loved her Brighton, and no matter how she was feeling, always said that he "Brightoned her day." She Loved to sit and laugh with her entire family as much as she could. Each and every one took part in the splendor of her life. Mary's life was filled with laughter, joy, and happiness, and every day she woke up with a sunny outlook on life. She was Loved by many, and many she Loved. Always the giver, she rarely asked for anything. All she ever did was Love people, and she never met a stranger. Words cannot express how much we Love her and how very much she will be missed. EDWARDS Virginia Estey Duncan Edwards (Mrs. John Handy Edwards), born May 16, 1911 to Helen Dunning Duncan and Ellis Madison Duncan in Birmingham, Alabama and died October 30, 2009 at her home in Oklahoma City. She attended school in Birmingham, Alabama and later Charlotte, North Carolina graduating from high school in 1927 at the age of 16. She later graduated with a B.A. degree from Randolph-Macon Women's College in 1931 where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta. After college, she taught school and later worked for the FBI in Charlotte. In 1937, she married John Handy Edwards and moved to Oklahoma City. A son, John Jr. was born in 1939 and died at the age of five months. Throughout her life she was active in the community and belonged to several organizations. She was a member of the Junior League, Tuesday Study Club (served as president), Freedom's Foundation at Valley Forge (charter member of the OKC chapter), and Philomathea Club (served as president). She and her husband worked in a church group from St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral at the Federal Penitentiary at El Reno for four years and later at the Joseph Harp Correctional Center at Lexington for four years. She and her husband were charter members of the Sundowners at the State Fair of Oklahoma assisting with international exhibitors. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, serving as secretary, registrar and president. She was on the National Honor Roll. She was a Regent for Kenmore, home of George Washington's sister in Fredericksburg, VA for 25 years. Virginia had a deep love of the arts and many of the organizationsto which she belonged supported the arts in Oklahoma. She was a member of the Oklahoma Art League (served as president), Oklahoma City Orchestra League, Civic Music, and the OCU Opera and Music Association. She was a longtime member of the Oklahoma City Art Museum and Trustee of the Oklahoma Museum of Art. Much of her life was spent fostering connections between international visitors and the people of Oklahoma. She was a member of the Alliance Francaise, the English-speaking Union and a charter member and Programmer of the Oklahoma City Visitors Council for 35 years, and later chairman. She planned visits of international visitors, which included entertaining them in her home, continuing friendships with many. International students and FAA students were welcomed into her home. Her parents preceded her in death. Her husband John died in 1993. He sister, Josephine Cook and husband Simeon Bates Cook are deceased. She leaves a loving family, including three children, Josephine Edwards Thweatt and husband the Reverend Richmond F. Thweatt, III of Oklahoma City, OK, Helen Edwards Lutsch a physician of Hedemora, Sweden, Ellis Duncan Edwards and wife Thao of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren, Jason Thweatt of Kansas City, Jennifer Thweatt Harris of Dallas, Eric Edwards and wife Vanessa of Portland OR, John Handy Edwards, III and wife Sarah of Oklahoma City; and four great-grandchildren, James Michael, Malik Thomas, Demetris LeBryant and Addison Vollum Edwards; two nephews, Dr. Simeon B. Cook, III and wife Mary Jane of Albuquerque and Stuart W. Cook, wife Alexa and children Brian and Andi of San Diego, CA; niece, Carol Cook and husband Don Peter of Longmont, CO. Virginia's family would like to thank Dr. Kersey L. Winfree, M.D., the staff of St. Anthony Hospital and the staff of Frontier Hospice for their generous care of Virginia during these last months.
