"YR": BRAEDEN WILL BE BACK AS THE POWERFUL VICTOR NEWMAN
After news of his departure was splashed all over magazines, newspapers and Web sites, Eric Braeden and "The Young and the Restless" have reached a contract agreement. According to a story in Entertainment Weekly, the actor agreed to a reduction in salary in exchange for a three-year contract to return as Victor Newman. However it happened, the fans win, and Victor will be brought back into the Genoa City fold after a brief absence that began Nov. 2.
One of daytime's leading heartthrobs is returning to soaps after an eight-year absence. Scott Reeves, who left "YR" in 2001 to pursue a country music career, has been cast as the new Steven Lars Webber on "General Hospital." Reeves earned two Daytime Emmy nominations as Ryan McNeil on "YR" before the character was killed off on his wedding day (to Victoria Newman, then played by Heather Tom) in one of the saddest soap deaths ever.
Steven is Elizabeth's (Rebecca Herbst) half brother and was most recently played by actor Shaun Benson in 2005. Reeves will debut in the role sometime in December.
"All My Children" celebrates its 40th anniversary this January when it moves to its bigger studio on the West Coast. Former "AMC" star turned talk-show sensation Kelly Ripa will return briefly as Hayley, along with her real-life husband, Mark Consuelos, as Hayley's husband Mateo. They departed the soap in 2002 when Ripa won the co-hosting job on "Live With Regis and Kelly" over several bigger-name stars.
The popular band the All-American Rejects will perform at "One Life to Live's" fictional club Ultra Violet Dec. 4 and 7. The musicians, who hail from Stillwater, Okla., had the hit single "Swing, Swing" back in 2002 from their platinum-selling self-titled debut album. "OLTL" has hosted many performers through the years, including Lionel Richie, Snoop Dogg and Nelly Furtado.
Over on "The Bold and the Beautiful," Joanna Johnson returns as Karen Spencer Nov. 12 and 13, and look for the always delightful Jim. J. Bullock to appear again as Serge Nov. 9 and 12. "BB" composer Jack Allocco and musician Marcos Loya will be portraying the guitarists on the Nov. 12 and 13 episodes, and Robin Riker and Patrick Duffy return as Beth and Stephen Logan Nov. 12 and 13 as well.
Speaking of Riker, she'll be seen in the theatrical production of "Welcome to the Woods" from Nov. 14 through Dec. 10, Wednesday through Sunday at 8 p.m. (However, no performances Nov. 25 through 27.) The play will be shown at the Witzenhausen Gallery (232) at 548 W. 28th St., 2nd Floor. Tickets are available for $18 at www.SmartTix.com or by calling 212-868-4444. Riker is an accomplished actress who also has numerous prime-time credits, including guest appearances on "Big Love," ''The Closer" and "Boston Legal."
Don't forget to tune in to the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, on NBC following coverage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Former soap actor John O'Hurley (ex-Jim, "YR") is doing the hosting honors again this year. You also might recognize O'Hurley as J. Peterman on "Seinfeld" and as himself on "Dancing With the Stars."
