What they're saying: About Sam Bradford

What they’re saying: About Sam Bradford
Tim Griffin, Big 12 blogger, ESPN.com: "We’ve likely seen the last of Sam Bradford in an Oklahoma uniform. It was fun while it lasted. He’ll go down as one of the best players in the history of the Big 12, a consummate producer on the field and a good citizen during his memorable career with the Sooners. Bradford came back to school for what he thought were good reasons. It’s unfortunate his season unraveled because of injuries in such limited playing time.”

Kevin Weidl and Todd McShay, NFL Draft experts, ESPN.com: "Scouts and NFL front offices came into the season with two big questions about Bradford: could he add needed bulk to his frame without it affecting his play on the field, and how would he handle pressure behind a retooled offensive line?

Not only has Bradford failed to answer those questions to this point, but scouts have even more concerns about his durability now that he’s been knocked out of two games with an injury to his throwing shoulder.”

Sam Bradford, Oklahoma quarterback: "It’s extremely frustrating the way this season has gone for me. To get hurt in the first game, to have to sit out three games and then to leave this one early and not be able to finish is really frustrating. It’s hard to put into words.”

Pat Forde, ESPN.com columnist: "Once again, Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford went down with a shoulder injury — this time just 12 snaps into the game. Once again, Oklahoma lost a heartbreaker. It has now lost three games by a total of five points and can only wonder what this season would have been like with the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner (and All-America tight end Jermaine Gresham) healthy.

This much seems clear: No. 20 Oklahoma would have won Saturday with Bradford playing the full 60 minutes.”

Wow I remember NFL scouts and talking heads saying Vince Young would be the greatest of all time in the NFL. Thats working out pretty well so far dont you think? ohh oops bad example

Hey if Joe or Rick were acutal NFL scouts, they proably wouldn't be commenting on this article from there computer in their mothers basement.

An by the way its Bradfords choice and his alone. We as OU fans need to support him in whatever descion he makes and thinks is best for him. If he descides to come back we cheer and if he decides to go to the NFL we cheer and wish him success.

Guy gets hurt and everyone is questioning his playmaking? Get real. It's like the analysts are saying: If he doesn't get back on the field this season, then he needs to come back for his senior year so he can blow the doors off it again and get back as a very high draft pick.
Shepard, Stonewall - Oct 20, 2009 at 11:28 pm
He's a great kid, but not a big time college QB. He is not a play maker at QB behind an
average offensive line, like all the other QB's, except for Texas, are. Like I have always said,
Sam can't make plays with his feet. The last QB OU had that could make plays with his
feet was Bomar. OU has no run game or line to make it happen. The DO had all these
articles about what the offensive line did during the winter, spring, fall, and they are still
not getting the job done. Nate Hybl got hurt and Jason White came in and led the Sooner's
to a victory, over Texas. Back then OU had a better staff. You make the call.

Bradford not only didn't miss any time after the Tech concussion, but he came back the next game to help OU blow out Oklahoma State (the most predictable outcome of any game in any sport at any level that year) to clinch the South, and blow out Mizzou to win the Big-12 title.

I remember the fumble, part, but it being the pilefoalling on him not the tackle itself as causing the concussion. Either way, it had nothing to do with toughness...if that were the case then people would be abuzz about Tebow getting his bell rung.
Richard, Visalia - Oct 20, 2009 at 5:28 pm
Also, Sam's concussion from the Tech game was not from his own o-lineman falling on his head, but it came when he was making a tackle of a Tech player after one of the rb's fumbled.

Barry, how well do you think the sooners will play when Oklahoma State comes to town?
David, Albuquerque - Oct 20, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Rick, Bradford did not miss a single game after the concussion in Lubbock. It was not a hit that caused it, but one of his own O-lineman landed on his head. The shoulder injury is not a durablity issue if there is no structural damage to the extent of requiring reconstructive surgery. Several NFL QBs have their schoulders worked on in the off season to clear out scar tissue and are later joined by many other QBs who go through some form of rehab to repeir and strengthen the shoulder. I still think the NFL big bucks are not as much of an issue to Bradford as is how he wants to leave OU and what his legacy will look like. If Braford is the real deal in the combines, you can bet a team will be willing to take a chance, if that is what it would be, to get him on the roster. And another thing, do we really know how often Bradford has been hit? We know he wasn't sacked much, but the camera always goes downfield when the pass is thrown and we don't see the QB standing in the pocket and taking the shot. I have seen him creamed a few times and he gets right back up. I don't think anyone can question his toughness.
Richard, Visalia - Oct 20, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Wow, I didn't realize we had NFL scouts like Rick reading the Oklahoman! How lucky we all are! Get your facts straight, Rick. Sam didn't even miss "several games" after the Tech concussion.
Jordan, Norman - Oct 20, 2009 at 11:28 am
Rick if i remember right sam didn't miss a game if he did it was one after the concussion
Kevin, Lovington - Oct 20, 2009 at 11:18 am
I think Bradford's decision to play this year has cost him many millions of dollars. I'd be surprised to see any NFL team take him. Two years ago he missed several games after getting a concussion in the Texas Tech game in what appeared to be a minimal contact play. Now he has shown that he can't land on his right shoulder without spraining it. Believe me an NFL qb ends up on the ground many times per game. I don't think Sam is physically strong enough for the NFL.

Jesse Palmer said yesterday, in the same conversation, that Bradford should both come back and enter the draft. He asked what if he should come back and he said yes because he needs to work on some things and because his draft stock has fallen and then that he absolutely HAS to enter the draft.
