Stoops favors OU-Texas home- and-home
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops points out the atmosphere at the Cotton Bowl when Oklahoma plays Texas is special.

But if he had his way, Stoops would like the series to periodically be played at Texas’ Memorial Stadium and OU’s Owen Field.

"I always felt it’d be pretty neat to play it home-and-home once in a while,” Stoops said Tuesday during his weekly press conference. "That’d be pretty cool, too.”

Don’t count on that happening soon. The Cotton Bowl’s contract with the Red River rivals runs to 2015.

There’s also financial implications from playing at a neutral site. During an online chat Tuesday with the Dallas Morning News, Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said, over a two-year period of time, the game in Dallas would net about 40 percent more for the schools than a home-and-home.

"As always, I’ll defer that to our presidents and athletic directors,” said Stoops, "who really know the business side of what this game is worth.”

Home and Home and then Dallas! Rotate it every third year it is in Norman. What fun would that be? WOW!

Do the names Jack Sisco and John McClintock bring back any memories? It is Dallas, Tx not Dallas,OK. It is not, and never has been, a nuetral sight. Go home on home.

Just one question makes the whole thing crystal clear, do you believe that in any universe UT would agree to play Oklahoma in Oklahoma every year?

Why is that so many people think the Cotton Bowl is a "home" game for Texas? Both schools have to travel about the same distance, both have to stay in a hotel somewhere, both schools have the same number of fans in the stands, and frankly, OU has just as many alumni in the Dallas area as UT does. Just the fact that the soil beneath the stadium is on one side of an arbitrary geopolitical state line makes it a UT home game? That sounds more like an excuse for losing than anything else. This is as close to a neutral game with no home field advantage as you can get.

The field in the CB is the same size as the ones in Norman and Asstin. The seats are divided equally. Once the teams are on the field there is no advantage. It's not like playing LSU in the Superpieceofcrap Dome where 80% of the people for the "neutral" bowl game cheered for LSUcks. I know, I am at the CB every year and I was at the Superpieceofcrap Dome when we played LSUcks. It is vastly different.

I love the tradition of the game being played in the Cotton Bowl with the state fair going on. But I can also see Stoops point of view it would be nice to play in Norman. When you cross the state line into Texas and see a number of TX flags the idea of it being a true neutral territory is pretty much a joke. Stoops once said "Last time I checked Dallas is in TX". Anyone who attended the NC game against LSU or Florida know how much of a joke it is to play someone at a "neutral site" in your opponets home state.

I agree. Should be a 4 year rotation. Norman, Dallas, Austin, Dallas.

I like Bob Stoops but I gotta disagree on this one. OU/Texas during the state fair of Texas if one of the last great college football traditions. In the past, governors have intervened to keep this game in the Cotton Bowl and I hope they continue to do so!

why was this article written? fodder for the page because of job duties?

Having the winningest college football team over the past ten years, I'd say Bob can express his opinion however he wants. Switzer said it too, "When played in Dallas, the Red River Shootout will always be a home game for Texas". Btw, when do we give up the south endzone (entrance) seats too?
Brock, Beaver - Oct 14, 2009 at 8:10 am
We all would. We can't win on the road - and last time I checked we win one out of 3 in this series, approximately. I'd wanna go home too
