OU football: Stoops is focused on game, not voters
If it gets more support, Texas could still pass Sooners in standings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Is there any way the Oklahoma Sooners could win the Big 12 championship tonight and be passed by Texas in the BCS rankings?

No one really thinks so. The computers wouldn’t drop OU behind Texas, and any voters intent on shifting the Longhorns ahead of the Sooners had the opportunity last weekend. And some did so.

OU coach Bob Stoops said he hasn’t pondered the question.

"I don’t ever look at anything other than doing your best to win, and that’s what we’re focused on,” Stoops said Friday at the Big 12 title game press conference. "Whatever is going to be will be from there.

"There’s a lot of opinions out there and a lot of voices, but in the end, what you do on Saturday is all that matters.”

Well, not all that matters. In college football, Saturday results are followed by Sunday votes.

And the notorious three-way tie in the Big 12 South created the ultimate dilemma.

"It’s kind of a perfect storm down in the South this year,” said Missouri coach Gary Pinkel. "I question that it would ever happen again. But it’s just obviously great teams, and two teams are going to be very disappointed.”

Oh My God this is funny and sad. Only in Oklahoma.

I've lived in Texas my whole life and I have never seen a Texan (Longhorn fan )or anyone from this state where an anti sooner, anti aggie, or anti any other team where a t shirt, cap, etc.....

Only in Oklahoma do people buy more junk having to do with the Texas Longhorns.

And you call Mack Brown classless?

Now there's the pot calling the kettle black.

Here is a direct link to that site page.

Check this out. This site already has OU Orange Bowl t-shirts and other stuff. They also have a great "35>45" logo and other funny Anti-Texas stuff. http://www.ShirtPervert.com/index.cgi/SportsTshirts

Listen Plainsman, one game is A GAME! We both know the BSU win over Oklahoma should have been much much larger had it not been for the fluke when the ball hit a BSU player on the punt. The Sooners were totally dragging at that point and definitely out of the game. It should never have come down to the late game heroics and the fantastic coaching job of Peterson that will be remembered forever by college football fans. Get serious and let's just hope you can somehow evade the total thrashing you'll get from the Gators if you make it to the big game. Tebow definitely has to be the top pick for the Hiesman.

Don't you love the losers, who pretend that all their favorite teams win every bowl they play in? What team wins every bowl game they play in? How many of them are playing for National Championships? Stoops bowl record doesn't upset Sooner fans unless they are losers as people.

Let's just hope there's some way Mizzou can beat the Sooners tonight to save Stoops and crew from the usual bowl game embarrassing bowl game losses of past years. To have to have it happen in the BCS Championship would be more than you Sooner fans could possibly stomach. Gosh, the Fiesta Bowl doesn't even want the Sooners back after two straight years of futility. I'm neither a Sooner or Longhorn fan. Matter of fact, I can't stand either team but there's no way you should be rated over a team you lost to during the regular season. Boise State would certainly kick your tails again this year simply based on much better coaching alone.

Or OU can just destroy Mizzou like they have eleven other teams this season and it won't be an issue. If OU dominates, people will forget about Texass. Until Mack comes on to state his case and say 45-35 in the middle of our game again.

Bill, I understand your unhappy as your pernennial LoSurs couldnt make it to the big game today?

Let's see, T Boone gave you 165 mil and you still couldnt beat the big boys nor sell out your stadium. Just have Holder get T Boone to pony up another 200 mil and you might be able to beat Tech next year.
Just be careful he doesnt start looking at the ROI of his new playtoy, he may ask for a refund.

Rather crisp outside here in KC this morning. Whats the weather like in Tulsa?

Stoops job is to coach football and win Big12 titles.

Mack Browns job is to fly banners and politic about football.

But the one place where it counts - the championship trophy - will read just the same.
MartzMimic, Oklahoma City - Dec 6, 2008 at 9:08 am
I understand there will be alot of banners at the game today saying "Welcome to the Second Place Bowl".
