The Main Event

The Oklahoma City Thunder can not play an NBA regular-season game in Tulsa due to contractual obligations with the Ford Center.

Since most NBA teams don't play many preseason games in their home arena because they're already charging fans hundreds upon thousands of dollars for 41 regular-season games, is it possible the Thunder could play two or three preseason games every year in Tulsa?

"It's been discussed on our end," said team chairman Clay Bennett. "We're very willing to pursue that. We'll do what the market wants us to do. We view Tulsa as a very important part of this endeavor. If there is support for multiple games we'd very much like to play in Tulsa."

The Thunder's Developmental League team is also in Tulsa, so it would make sense for the Thunder to make multiple Tulsa appearances.

"We'll learn a lot more about the market given our investment with the 66ers," Bennett said. "We'll have a consistent business presence with that team. Part of that is we'll market the Thunder."

I hope this can happen! I think preseason is a GREAT opportunity for ALL pro-franchises to play around thier state. For the thunder - play in Tulsa. For example, The TN Titans SHOULD play a preseason game in Memphis and in Knoxville. The 76rs (back to NBA) should play say in State College and in Pittsburgh. Cavs could play in Columbus and Cin. etc. I think it would be a great opportunity to gain MORE support for teams.
