Not T-town's first go-round

Tulsa will be hosting its first NBA preseason game in 12 years. The previous three provided some memorable highlights.

Allen Iverson, the No. 1 pick in the 1996 draft, made his pro debut at Tulsa's Civic Center. One coach was ejected. Tulsa even hosted a regular-season game 36 years ago. Sort of. It was an ABA game.

Oct. 11, 1996

Iverson produces mixed reviews in his debut as the 76ers beat the Dallas Mavericks 99-69 in front of 5,673 fans at the Civic Center. Jerry Stackhouse, the No. 2 pick the previous year, scores 19 points in 24 minutes for Philadelphia. Former OU star Ryan Minor also makes his pro debut, scoring 15 points for the 76ers.

Oct. 15, 1985

Former OU star Alvin Adams and the Phoenix Suns defeat Dallas 116-113 in front of 1,975 at the Convention Center. The star is Ed Pinckney, who scores 22 points six months after leading Villanova to the NCAA title.

Oct. 9, 1985

Former Tulsa star Paul Pressey and the Milwaukee Bucks defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-114. Bucks coach Don Nelson is ejected in the fourth quarter... of a preseason game.

Nov. 2, 1972

The fan-starved Dallas Chapparals, later renamed the San Antonio Spurs, open ORU's Mabee Center by playing an ABA regular season game in Tulsa. The Chapparals defeat the New York Nets 106-99.
