Scott Kluthe was living in Seattle when he spotted a picture on a real estate Web site.
Based on that image, he flew to Oklahoma and met his wife, Pat Kluthe, who was working in Joplin, Mo. They immediately purchased a lot in Bear Creek Estates in Logan County. That was three years ago. About a year ago, the couple moved into their first home together. As it happens, Bear Creek Estates is halfway between her grandchildren in Missouri and his grandchildren in Texas. "I have moved 12 times for work. I knew I could be happy anywhere. It just felt convenient, to be in between the grandchildren,” he said. Before her retirement, Pat Kluthe was director of the honors program for Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. Scott Kluthe was the general director of line maintenance for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for the Seattle region. Their home at 5950 Cox Canyon Road was constructed by Terry Covey Custom Homes in Oklahoma City and includes two master suites and a "man cave” in the detached garage. "We built this by long distance,” Pat Kluthe said. "We enjoy everything about the house. They did a real nice job on the construction; there's no doubt about that,” Scott Kluthe said. Another attribute of the house is that "we wanted something out, private and out. We didn't want to live 10 feet from the people next to us,” Pat Kluthe said. In fact, the windows in the sun room, as well as the two master suites, are without blinds or curtains. Through the glass is an aqua pool and a field of green. "The trees, the rolling hills, it is just perfect for us,” Pat Kluthe said. "It's like living in a park.”
