The Seattle-based premium coffee company also announced Tuesday it expects to open fewer than 200 new company-operated stores in the United States in fiscal 2009.

The company says it will try to place workers from closed stores in remaining Starbucks.

KL. No offense, not all are snooty. I'm not, I'm just addicted to mochas. The fresh blend of chocolate with coffee, something I found I had a taste for 2 years ago. On some levels Starbucks is really good, on some they are not so good. Those watching what Starbucks supports and don't support will know what that means. I sure hope they don't close the one in Target! I gotta have my mochas :D lol John of OKC

I recommend we all get together, each of us bring a case of Coors, and talk about our problems.

*sniff*....now where will pretentious people go for their cup of snob-ffee....? And all those poor teen-somethings that are trying to act grown up by drinking icedhotcappaspressomochafrappalattechinos. Where will they all go? (How about Seattle?)

Maybe if Shultz hadn't signed a no-win contract with the City of Seattle and lost his shirt for the last 5 years, he wouldn't have to close the restaurants. And maybe the coffee he sells is just too darned high and not that good.

If 4 dollar coffee is too much for you then 4 dollars for a soft drink (small) and 7 dollars for a beer at the Sonics game will probably break you! That is of course if you pay out the 41 dollars for the nose bleed seat (note 1 seat) to actually get to those soft drinks and beer. I can hear it already...maybe the Sonics should stay in Seattle where they can afford 4 dollar coffee!

Oh PLEASE! Do you people actually think Starbucks gives a rats A$$ if people from our state stopped buying from them? Only people from Oklahoma could think the stupid stuff that has been said on this forum! Could you guys even comprehend that most people in this country have no clue what so ever or have even care about Clay Bennett, Oklahoma City or Mr.Shultz? Over 15,000 Starbucks around the world and we got YAHOOOS here that think it's because of the Sonics that those 600 stores are closing....GROW UP! Yeah, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Circle K and 7-Eleven are right down our states alley as far as good places to get coffee goes??? YAHOOOO

Must remember that profits from Starbucks went into funding all the legal actions against Clay Bennett and The City of Oklahoma City. I stopped visiting it at that moment and my company flat stopped buying gift card for employee birthdays and spifs. We changed to Java Daves and gift cards per choice of employee. I could not see buying anything from a company that wanted to do nothing but hurt this state. They should have stayed out of the matter and it sure looks like they had no idea how to run a company in these days and times when people were tired of paying more for coffee than filling their vehicle. In a recent documentary about Starbucks it revealed how surprised even Mr. Shultz was that people would pay $4 for a cup of coffee. He took his amusement all the way to the bank. I do agree that coffee from other places is just as good and I found that the offerings at the new remodeled Circle K is quite good. Of course I want to see a massive increase in On Cue stations. They are well designed, well stocked, well staffed, and the instant milk shakes are great. It would also be a better world if the Ground Floor reopened in Nichols Hills. The Starbucks that replaced it closes early has none of the food offerings.

Could we use any better Oklahoma language than "big honking drink"...? Anyways... I agree that Starbucks was a fad that has faded out. There will always be a market for it, I think just on a smaller level. They saturated the market so much once they became part of pop culture, that people are now looking at local coffee joints. If anything they hurt themselves by energizing the coffee/latte experience that everyone is cashing in.

I prefer the new ice coffee at McDonald's. For 1.99 you get a big honking drink that lasts all morning long and tastes just as good if not better than the iced vanilla latte at Starbucks. Could happen to a nicer guy that Schultz.

For $5, I could buy a flavored creamer at the store, hell cheaper than $5 that would make numerous cups of coffee. Never was a fan of Starbucks, I'd rather buy from local joints.

Ha! That serves Seattle and Schultz right for putting all their money into trying to save something that was already a dead issue in Seattle! Welcome to OKC, Sonics!

I hope they keep the one by my house open, although unless I get gift certificates I can't go very often.

I love Starbucks. Maybe 6 times a year. A real treat for me. After all there is a Starbucks on about every corner now. Will anyone miss 600? I know I have been to them in 10 states and 5 diffrent countries. My feeling is there are too many of them and they are way to expensive.

Patronize local businesses and put your money back into the community whenever possible. There are many coffee shops in the metro area that offer quality coffee and similar if not better atmosphere than Starbucks and your money stays here. The same is true for all businesses. I feel badly for those people who will lose their jobs with this downsizing. Writing this as I sit in a Java Daves. Ha!

Gee, I wonder why at $5.00 a cup. Ounce per Ounce, Gasoline is cheaper then starbuck coffee. And coffee is a renewable source - go figure.

And this is news, 7-11 sells flavored coffee for a lot less. Buy cheaper coffee and save your money for gas, makes more sense.
