OSU has scheduled a press conference for 2 p.m. Thursday to formally introduce Ford as the new coach.

The University of Massachusetts media relations department said a gathering was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night Swhere the athletic director and players will discuss the future of the program without Ford.

Ford, 38, just completed his third season at UMass. The Minutemen went 25-11 this season and played in the championship game of the NIT. From 2000-2005 Ford coached at Eastern Kentucky, where he compiled a 61-80 record. In eight years as a Division-I coach, Ford's record is 123-115.

Ford played his freshman year at Missouri, then transferred and played three seasons at Kentucky, finishing in 1993.

Ford's hiring ends a 15-day process which saw the Cowboys turned down by Kansas coach Bill Self.

Sean Sutton resigned under pressure on April 1 after two seasons as OSU's head coach. Sutton, the son of longtime OSU coach Eddie Sutton, played at OSU and spent 14 seasons in Stillwater as an assistant under his father.
