Contrary to some news reports, Episcopalians do not spend all their time battling over internal denominational matters.

That is what the presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church USA wants people to know about the 2.4 million Episcopalians she was elected last year to lead.

"It's been a great blessing to see the health and vitality of this church,” the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori said today at a news conference at Oklahoma City's St. Paul's Cathedral, 127 NW 7.

"It's not always reported but it is the reality — in 95 to 99 percent of the congregations, most people are engaged in missions in their local congregations and in their dioceses, building partnerships with other people and overseas and they're busy doing the work of the Gospel. They're not focusing on our differences.”

Jefferts Schori is in Oklahoma City for Saturday's consecration of the Rev. Edward J. Konieczny, the new bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma. Konieczny's consecration ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. at Oklahoma City University's Freede Wellness Center, NW 27 and Florida.
