BOISE, Idaho — A perfect season wasn't enough to earn Boise State a berth in the BCS National Championship game. When college football nation debated — Florida or Michigan? — no one suggested Boise State.
The Broncos weren't even in the conversation. But they weren't offended.
"You won't hear anyone in that locker room saying we should be in the national championship game,” Boise State senior center Jadon Dailey said. "Not at all. We're not gonna think we're an upper-tier program, because we're not. We're in the WAC. We're Boise State.”
Dailey and his teammates say they're satisfied with playing Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, a week before the national title game. Satisfied with being the second team from a non-BCS conference (Utah, in 2004, was the first) to play in a BCS bowl.
But still, Boise State's perfection begs the question: Assuming no significant change to the current system — meaning, no playoffs — can a team like Boise State ever make the BCS title game?
Is it even possible?
"I don't think so,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said.
At best, it's highly improbable. Consider that Boise State is unbeaten and ranked No. 8 in the BCS; Two years ago, Utah was unbeaten and ranked No. 6.
