OU football: Q&A

Don’t be surprised to see ‘AD’ and ‘AP’
With Adrian Peterson returning to practice more than three weeks before the Fiesta Bowl, how much will he be expected to play against Boise State?

One thing must be understood: Peterson is a physical freak.

He can make his body do things that normal humans can’t dream of.

With that said, the OU coaches will still try to protect him, not knowing what kind of stamina he’ll have in his first game in more than 11 weeks.

They’re likely to rest him early in the game to make sure he’s fresh late.

And it helps that they have a known quantity in Allen Patrick backing up Peterson.

There won’t be any reservations about giving Patrick the ball 10 times in the first half.

It’s never too early for an OU quarterback controversy. Who will be the front-runner to be the starter in 2007?

One thing is for sure, it will either be Joey Halzle, Sam Bradford or Keith Nichol. Unless Bob Stoops lands another recruit. Then all bets are off.

Halzle is the most experienced of the three, and Bradford’s athletic talents have been well-chronicled around central Oklahoma. Nichol is the wild card.

There’s no need to go down the list, but Stoops hasn’t had much success the last few years with QBs who are highly sought-after national prospects.

The fact that Nichol, a run-pass threat, will be at OU next month — and for spring practice — is a positive. Otherwise, he probably wouldn’t be in the discussion.

Are there any Fiesta Bowl tickets left?

Yes, but not many. At last report, the OU ticket office had fewer than 200 remaining from its allotment of 17,500. And OU is trying to make sure these tickets get into the hands of Sooner fans.

"For now, we are holding these tickets for OU fans,” athletics director Joe Castiglione said. "We want Oklahoma fans using the Oklahoma tickets. We are nearing the point where we can close out this sale, and we look forward to the great Sooner following pushing us over the top.”

If tickets still remain in the next couple of days, OU will release them to any buyer.

The tickets cost $135 each and are available at www.soonersports.com.
