Williams improving
Freshman offensive tackle Trent Williams, taken from the field by cart at the Big 12 Championship, should be fine to practice and play in the Fiesta Bowl.

Williams suffered a leg injury in the second half of the game, but he was later seen on the field and told reporters he was "OK."

A return by Williams could be key because he has already replaced Branndon Braxton (broken leg) at right tackle.

Group effort: Recognized as one of the nation's top kickers when he was named a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, OU's Garrett Hartley was quick to share the credit.

"This wouldn't really take place if I didn't have an excellent snapper in Derek Shaw and an excellent holder in Hays McEachern," Hartley said. "I know a lot of times they're not in the spotlight, but I'm just one part of a three-part trio."

Getting his kicks: Unlike most years, the Sooners aren't representing in force at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award Show, where the top players at virtually every position are recognized.

Hartley is the lone Sooner in Orlando.

Still, Hartley is making the most of the trip, which began Sunday and doesn't end until a flight back to Norman on Friday. The trip has included dinners, a stay at a five-star hotel, and a visit to Universal Studios.

The highlight for Hartley so far: "A round of golf at the PGA National Resort, the Champions Club," he said. "Pretty spectacular."

Bronco banter: In romping to an undefeated regular season, Boise State found itself a target team in most games.

The Broncos sound happy to be on the flip side of that role in the Fiesta Bowl.

"It's good to be back to being the underdog, to come out with a chip on our shoulder," Boise State linebacker Korey Hall said. "Our team plays a lot better in that situation when we're backed into a corner and have to show everyone what our team is all about."
