The road to Kansas City: Troopers urge caution

Published: December 2, 2006

This week's icy storm could pose a problem for football fans.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Pete Norwood said troopers are concerned about the additional traffic headed north today as University of Oklahoma fans follow their team to the Big 12 championship game in Kansas City.

"It's going to take you a little bit longer," Norwood said. "You are talking about 35 miles per hour when you are used to doing 70 miles per hour. If you are going to do it, go slow and make sure you have provisions in your car."

Norwood said everyone driving in the icy conditions should have a charged cell phone, blankets, water and food in case they get stranded. He said it could take troopers quite some time to respond if something happens because of the high number of calls.
