Sooners, Huskers meet in title game for 1st time
Of the first 10 Big 12 Conference championship football games, Oklahoma and Nebraska have played in a total of seven of them.

So it's hard to believe this will be the first time since the conference was formed in 1996 that the two teams — who routinely played with Big 8 titles on the line during the 1970s and '80s — have met in the title game.

OU and Nebraska kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

The three seasons in which neither OU nor Nebraska played for the Big 12 championship were 1998 (Kansas State and Texas A&M), 2001 and 2005 (Colorado and Texas both times).

Saturday's game will be the fourth time in 83 meetings that the Sooners and Cornhuskers have played at a neutral site.

They played at Omaha, Neb., in 1919, at Oklahoma City in 1944, and they met in the 1978 Orange Bowl in Miami.

OU is 2-0-1 in those three games and leads the all-time series 42-37-3.

Ticket info: OU season ticket holders have a two-hour window today to order Big 12 Championship tickets before the OU ticket office opens sales to the general public.

Season ticket holders can call the ticket office between 8-10 a.m. to place an order for tickets in the OU section of the stadium. If any tickets are left at that time, they will become available to the public.

Tickets cost $70 each and may be purchased by calling the OU ticket office at (405) 325-2424 or 800-456-4668. All orders will be shipped overnight via UPS.

Upper-level tickets also are still available at www.big12sports.com starting at $50.

Meaningful games: OU coach Bob Stoops said Sunday he was excited to again be playing in a game with so much riding on the outcome.

After being in the hunt for Big 12 and national championships every season from 2000-2004, the Sooners weren't in any of those discussions during an 8-4 campaign a year ago.

It appeared they would be left out again this year, until Texas A&M upset Texas on Friday.

"It was exciting to me Friday when that happened to again be in a game that meant so much," Stoops said. "It's exciting to be in it, where you have so much at stake."
