"Other than being very poorly coached," Mike Gundy said, "those guys have done a really nice job of overcoming coaching and being very effective runners."

Mike Gundy, 39, was referring to the Sooners' ground game, which has prospered despite injuries and his brother Cale, 35, being OU's running backs coach.

"He and I have been going at it for 30 years now or longer," Mike Gundy said. "That's just the way it is. He's much more physically competitive than I am. He shows it more (outwardly) than I do.

"Even when we go home (to Midwest City for family gatherings) we go at it. He picks his son, I pick my son and we play pick-up hoops. We're going to go at it. That's the way it is. But not once when the game kicks off have I realized he's over there."
