Heritage Hall kicker sets national record

Heritage Hall senior Jimmy Stevens set the national high school record for career field goals on Friday night.

Stevens kicked a 26-yarder in the second quarter during the Chargers’ district game against Bethel in Oklahoma City. The field goal was the 49th of Stevens’ career. He passed previous record holders Brian Bond of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Tomas Sanchez of Arlington Heights, Texas.

The game was stopped after the record-setting kick as school officials honored Stevens, who has orally committed to the University of Oklahoma.
